While I don't enjoy MGS, I can easily see how others that are into the stealth genre like it. But WCW vs. nWo being better than Batman? BWA HA HA HAHA!!! And I'm a wrestling fan who happens to be VERY partial to WCW.

That's something I've always loved about MGS. The experience is what you make it. You can strap your bandana on and sprint through the game killing everything that moves with an assault rifle. Or you can be a slippery bastard going around slitting throats and setting traps. You can even go through the entire game without killing a single person if you want to (aside from bosses and events where you have to).

I do agree that MGS has a funky control scheme though. I think it's mainly because Snake has so many actions, a bunch of crazy weapons with multiple functions, and a dual inventory system, that it's hard to make a control scheme that is going to be intuitive on a controller. Whenever I play MGS 3, I always have to read the manual again because there's so much shit you can do, and stuff is always changing between games.

In Arkham Asylum (not that I want to harp on the "which one is better" topic), you pretty much just do one of two things. Mash square and punch out clowns in slo-mo, or sit on ledges and bat kick clowns. I'm sure there are other things you can do, but those things are the bulk of the game no matter what. I heard the second game gives you way more things to do, but I never really got into it.

Oh yeah? Well, Hitman is better than both MGS and the Batman Arkham series.

And Street Fighter is better.

And Dan is the best at Street Fighter.

Some of these control choices were intentional. In an interview regarding the original MGS (and if my memory serves correctly), Hideo Kojima said that, while it is possible to make Snake run and fire a gun at the same, the controls for making him do so are intentionally difficult. His goal here was to replicate, to a certain extent, the difficulty of actually running and shooting a gun at the same time.

As others have pointed out, MGS isn't "Holy Christmas fisher, you big toe was in the LIGHT, MISSION FAILED [Start Level Over]". You suffer real consequences and the difficulties can completely change the experience, now that's what I'd call good game design and tops off more replay value. You can totally go through all of them guns blazing, or not. You decide how you want to play them.

Maybe I needed blue text there, maybe you did too. I was just being snarky because it blows my mind those Batman games and MGS were being compared. I'm still laughing about it.

That's the most concise description of Pandora Tomorrow I've ever read.

Really? Both Asylum and City got Game of the Year. So me and Gamerforlife are far from alone on it.

They are both good series. One is not "better" than the other; you cannot be "wrong" about taste; and there really is no point in arguing over it.

Personally, I think that the MGS series offers more challenging and dynamic gameplay that requires me to approach the games' obstacles creatively. The gameplay in Arkham Asylum, at least, is more accessible, but not nearly as compelling. The game did, however, offer a better, simpler story, more interesting characters, incredibly fun - if not partiularly difficult - combat, and absolutely fantastic atmosphere.

Basically, I love both series for different reasons, and I do not - nor is it necessary for me to - love one more than the other.

Excellent point Jordache.

Well all you fellas can head on down to the Batman subforum and post there.

Jokes aside, I feel like most of the hype for the series is just because it's Batman. Call the game "That Weird Asylum Across Town" and make the main character some guy named Jeff, I predict it doesn't get nearly as popular.
