I realize that Star Trek isn't for everyone. That's totally cool. But I saw this promo, and all I could think of was, "This isn't Star Trek."

If the filmmakers think Star Trek needs to be taken in another direction, that's fine... but that's what spinoffs are for. If the perception was that Enterprise and Nemesis indicated that Star Trek had headed into undesirable territory, they should have started by fixing those problems or by just beginning afresh with a radically different new spinoff.

Reinventing the well-established and long-dormant original series to forgive the sins of its progeny or to blaze a trail for the next next generation of Star Trek seems about as illogical as giving a World War II veteran the Six Million Dollar Man treatment so that he can serve in Iraq in place of any of his capable (flawed or not) children and grandchildren.

Yet, there's nothing I can do about it, so I'm gonna sit here like a loyal fan and eat whatever they shovel at me and hope that it tastes better than it looks.

I'd agree with this but Voyager finished forever when they got home and I am more than doubtful you'd get half the DS9 cast back for a film or something.

Was anybody else not convinced by Janeway's 40 a day smoker's voice?

Voyager just didn't click with me. It was watchable but the crew lacked chemistry. Probably because of offstage interpersonal problems.

Well, the other crews (storyline-wise) were disbanded and reconstituted too so per the Voyager storyline that wouldn't be too hard. Concerning the DS9 crew, perhaps. But money talks. It wasn't easy to reconstitute the original cast for the TOS movies but it still got done.

Kate Mulgrew like starship captains before her, was trained in stage acting (probably a lot of Shakespere too like Shatner and Stewart) and that stage acting method tends to come through a lot.

You must not have seen much of the last two seasons. It actually got pretty good then. The overall ending was rather anti-climactic though. A little epilogue would have been a really good idea.

I was never much a fan of the series, any of them, really, except for the later few seasons of TNG. I do, however, love the original cast movies. Hah! What DOES God need with a starship?
