Ooo Fallout 4! As long as it isn't crappy like New Vegas was (just my opinion...).

I own, but haven't played FNV. What made it so bad?Sano wrote:Ooo Fallout 4! As long as it isn't crappy like New Vegas was (just my opinion...).

It's so funny how conflicted people are over Fallout 3 and NV.
For myself, I personally think NV blows F3 completely out of the water, along with all the other Bethesda developed stuff too.
The dialogue/writing is about 200x better. Obsidian could write up a story about dog doodoo and it'd be interesting.
Real factions, real choices that actually have an impact on the game. It's completely neutral just like Obsidian's other stuff, no clear good or evil.
The engine still sucks either way you cut it, but the towns were better in NV too I thought. The level design for most of the towns in F3 was just terrible.
No lame endless train tunnels too.
If you're doing console versions or no mods on the PC... NV re-used a lot of music from Fallout 1-2 and it takes it up 99 levels. I ended up using some mod for F3 that put in all the classic music and it's just hilarious how much better it made it for me. They should just really consider getting Mark Morgan back for 4 if possible.
The best of both games combined would be perfect. At times I really did like how F3 was more combat oriented, the big city area was pretty neat, and the main plot was potentially more interesting than NV's, but the writing is just terribad and boring. I felt the same with Skyrim after awhile and it just kills the immersion for me. That said the gameplay rocked and if Bethesda are doing F4 themselves it'd still be awesome, but it'd probably leave a bigger mark for me if Obsidian gets to do another. Either way Skyrim looked and played/felt amazing, so I can't wait to see what happens with Fallout in a better engine since I'm always a bigger fan for sci-fi.

Glad I waited on buying a PS4 because this is the game I want to buy the console with.

I thought NV was great in general. Main thing I didn't like was that the plot pretty much funnels you into a handful of ending options.Frag Mortuus wrote:I own, but haven't played FNV. What made it so bad?Sano wrote:Ooo Fallout 4! As long as it isn't crappy like New Vegas was (just my opinion...).

The writing in FNV was much better than 3, but at the higher levels enemies take too long to kill and do too much damage. Doesn't so much make the game harder as generally more frustrating.

I only noticed that with the DeathClaw myself, which you could easily ignore for the most part if you avoided that area. But yeah.marurun wrote:The writing in FNV was much better than 3, but at the higher levels enemies take too long to kill and do too much damage. I noticed it most on some of the DLC missions. There's one where you are fighting this tribe of folks who are, ostensibly, human, not mutant or monster. But you CANNOT take them out even with a critical headshot. I'm sorry, I know enemies need to be "harder" at higher levels, but making a human character impossible to take down without many many attacks, even to the head, is just silly.Xeogred wrote:I only noticed that with the DeathClaw myself, which you could easily ignore for the most part if you avoided that area. That said, NV really had MUCH better aiming mechanics. I found it hard to play Fallout 3 without using AP because my aim always seemed off. NV fixes that, and I was much more able to play without relying on AP. Using a sniper rifle or other very long range weapon is useless with AP in either game, but in Fallout 3 the aiming issues made most long-range combat pointless. In NV long-range is finally an option.
