But they aren, aren't there? I mean, every single 2D Mario after Super Mario World is Super Mario World, it has the same sensibilities, the same enemies, the same ideas, the same enemy placement.

Smash Bros is still the same game, simply cleaned, prettier and with a bigger rooster. It's more of a new edition than a new game, which I dont think is a bad thing but it's certainly not a "new game".

I don't know, I think all NES Megaman games are pretty much the same too so this is not just Nintendo hate.

• If you grew up with brothers and sisters who played video games, you probably experienced this. I hated this to death. My brothers would switch the orders of my game collection. That happens. But they would shuffle the games with the wrong cases. (ex: im trying to play PES on ps2, and open the case and GTA is in. Then I would have to open 5 cases to find my game.)

My cousin does this. I was trying to put away the game that was in his gamecube, and literally had to trace his play history back like 30 games until I found the empty case.

Casuals, those filthy fucking casuals.
A good rule of thumb I just invented is that if you spend more time playing the game than theorycrafting on forums, running calculator programs and staring at numbers in excel, you're doing it wrong.

Because JRPGs plots are often "Lolz bad guy wants to kill the world so it can be reborn" and it's not like you will get lost
Apparently (silver age) WRPGs don't exist. Not that you'd have to talk to every single peon and city guard, but you'll miss a lot of content and more importantly world building&context in many WRPGs if you just follow the main storyline and never bother talking to random NPCs.

Mega Man experimented with new stuff A LOT more than Mario games. Mega Man 5's gravity man stage etc. They added new elements to the gameplay (slide, charge shot, all the upgrades and accessories) and because the games weren't tied to a generic forest desert ice castle formula, but rather tied to the 8 robot masters formula, many stages had theme specific gimmicks, like that gravity thing I just mentioned.

Biggest pet peaves as a collector is people who throw away or misplace manuals, and mismatch discs with cases. Nothing like finding a really rare game in a store only to find a random demo disc or sports game in the case :P. Has gotten to the point that I sometimes go through each game in a store just to make sure I haven't missed anything :P.

Going to probably check the 200-300+ game cases at my regular pawnshops next week :P. They have been having shoplifting problems and I have run into about 5-10 empties every visit recently :P. Will give me a chance to double check the game cases for any hidden gems and once I'm done hopefully more room will be freed up for actual games :P.

Now that I started ignoring him and letting him sit there, he has decided to lay on his side and stretch out until there's no more room left on my lap for the stick. If I play with a controller, he's more than content to lay down and sleep beside me. It's just when i'm using an arcade stick.
That's adorable, he's jealous of the arcade stick taking your lap. :)

Why would you want to be shitty player 2 when you can be player 1? ;)

Cause the sequel (aka number 2) is always better than the original :P. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Donkey Kong Country 2, Assasin's Creed 2....(let's not mention Mario and Zelda here, ok?)

Agreed with people about not putting the right game back in the case. That pisses me off to no end!

I hate it when people don't take care of there disc's! One guy i know just leaves Disc's laying around! I couldn't believe it, i started having twiches it was irritating me so bad. The funny is one time he goes to play a movie which was laying around and guess what? it was scratched and wouldn't play! Then he acts all surprised! I was glad it was scratched, maybe he'll learn to take care of his shit! ... Probably not

^This!!! I hate people who whine and moan to be 1st player then go "ahhh what you push to start a match?" Or take forever changing stuff in the options! makes me want to punch them in the face make the change, then throw the controller at there face!

My pet peeves are more about people who work in, or own retro game stores.

People in retro stores trying to sell me a specific game because it' highly sought after. I had a guy try to sell me a copy of demon's crest even after I told him that I already have it. He kept on trying to say it's a game worth "investing in." Dude, I'm a collector. Not an "investor" I only need one. Stop.

Or people refusing to let me see a disc or a game in general. When I saw at New York Comicon, there was this really shady game booth there. They were putting out games they just bought without testing them. They literally just took some rubbing alcohol to them and put them out for sale. They even told me that's what they were doing. I saw that they had a copy of Castlevania that said "sealed" on it for 100 dollars. I asked if I could see the game. The guy was being a real dick about it.

"Can I see Castlevania?"

"Why? It's sealed."

"I would just like to see the game. I'm actually interested in it. I'm not wasting your time here."

"It's sealed. There's nothing to see."

"Dude, I just want to see the seal. I have the money"

"Whatever, fine."

He shows it to me. It's an obvious reseal... and a bad one. I seriously hate sellers like this guy the most. You can be as much of a tool as you want to be. You can overcharge for games at conventions. That doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when these sellers are overtly taking advantage of people who do not know better.
