I happen to love achievements, and hate multiplayer for the most part, especially in single player type games. I love to get as many achievements as I can per title, and being 'forced' to play multiplayer to complete an achievement list does suck.

Not the end of the world or anything though.

How come? I happen to loathe "achievements". Jumping is an achievement, walking is an achievement, and even draining the lizard is an achievement is some games.

I love completing games, but mindless achievements like "Find all the shoe horns" bring nothing to any game in my eyes. If an "achievement" adds to the game, that is one thing, but ugh...even the stuff in the Batman games is less than pedestrian accomplishments.

The first reviews of the game(s) are coming out and the general consensus seems to be more of the same, without moving things forward as City did. Highest score is 92 lowest is 60 for what it's worth.

So pretty much what everyone was expecting. I'll pass on getting the game straight away and wait til nearer crimbo when I suspect it'll have a big price slash and we might have a clearer idea of how DLC will pan out.

never buy the batman games on launch, they all have a greatest hits version a year later often cheaper than just buying the DLC.

A dear friend of mine picked it up last night at midnight.

He has three Batman tattoos and a curio cabinet full of Batman pieces from sideshow collectibles. The guy loves the Arkham series and couldn't wait to get his paws on it.

If you're nuts about the series, I say grab that scratch for your itch.

I had similar logic about buying games and then finding out that they come complete (DLC) a year later and cheaper. But to each person there is that "IT" game that is a must have at launch. I had purchased both Batman games (Asylum and City) at launch so far. Im in between the itch and the price, so i will probably wait for black friday and see how the price comes down.

I could apply that dumb logic to pretty much anything that any person in life actually enjoys doing. I could turn your argument right back at you and roll my eyes at you for playing video games at all because you certainly don't NEED to play games now do you?

Bottom line, some people don't like multi-player games and some of those same people enjoy getting achievements and trophies in their games. When those people have played two games in this franchise with no MP trophies to worry about, it kind of sucks when these new devs show up and screw with the formula. This is EXACTLY why some people freak out when they hear of new devs on a series, because you're expecting them to fuck up a perfectly good thing, which is exactly what they did.

Personally, I'm just sick and damn tired of EVERY GODDAMN GAME ON THE MARKET requiring a multi-player mode now. I know some people love multi-player and I'm fine with that, but keep your multi-player shit out of my single player games damnit. I just hate how the industry these days is like, "Screw you single player loving gamers. You're gonna get with the program and start digging multi-player games are we're going to goddamn FORCE you too." MP stopped being an optional thing with this past generation of consoles and it kind of pisses me off. This is not a series that was ever created for multi-player gaming, and it's not a shooter. There's no REASON for it to be there in this game, especially since NO ONE was asking for it. Just browsing through the net, I've seen very little positive reaction to the MP mode since the day it was announced. There clearly wasn't a demand for it from fans

I played Arkham Asylum and the achievement in it were pretty bad. I remember you had to find like all the Riddler clues. Just bs they threw in the game to make it seem like it has more depth than it does.

I quite enjoyed finding all the trophies/clue myself in both Asylum and City. They often required you to employ batman's full range of gadgets and abilities. Much better than say, GTA4 or Assassin's Creed 2 where the developers just stick a load of hard to spot collectibles over a massive landscape seemingly at random.

I agree with this. The Riddler trophies often required some creative thinking and uses of your equipment, which I enjoyed. More than once while pursuing a Riddler trophy, I would find a new use for an item that I didn't know it could do.

Anyway, I also like achievements, though I admit that they vary in quality. And yes, forcing multiplayer via achievements can get pretty annoying. But I must also admit, at least this is far better than Steam's achievements, which can be modified well after a game's release, tied to time-based promotional events, not work at all(there is no quality control on Steam for achievements), or worse, require you do something outside of a game, such as attending a convention or consuming an alcoholic beverage.
