GBA SP back-lit for me. Clicky buttons! Long lasting rechargeable battery that is easy to find and easy to replace.

Re: Which Gameboy had the best design?
Tough question since they're all kind of flawed in one way or another. I think the back-lit GBA SP is the "best" but it's very uncomfortable for me to use for any length of time while the original GBA isn't but it lacks the back-light so it's hard for me to play for any length of time for a completely different reason.
So for me, ultimately, the Gamecube Gameboy Player has the best Gameboy design.

GBA SP is definitely the best model. You have the back light, rechargeable battery built in, folding case which protects the screen very well, and like the GBA it is backwards compatible.
My favorite GB system in the look and comfort department though would have to be the Original Game Boy I like the heavier + bulkier systems since my hands are larger. Plus I liked the size and look of the game boy as well as its adjustable dot matrix screen.

Gunstar hit it dead on.
The best Gameboy is the Gameboy Player. It looks pretty darn snazzy hooked up to a CRT screen. I prefer to play my games at home rather than on a portable screen anyway.

Gameboy Pocket. I simply love it! To me, it felt like a very worthwhile update to the ol' brick GB. A much improved screen, and quite compact in size for its time. I still own the GB Pocket i purchased brand new back in the day

I like Micro very much, but the screen is too small so I prefer GBA SP (I've got one Tribal Limited Edition).

Agreed!
While I still like the standard GBA design a lot (a screen should be between your hands)...
The clicky buttons (which I didn't like at first) are WAY more responsive and less hard on your thumb than the original.
It's all about the gameplay.

Yeah, and it's the only way to truly have a Game"Cube".
However, I still am most comfortable with a Game Boy portable, even at home.
...just another lost soul...
Re: Which Gameboy had the best design?
I'd say it depends.
For display, compatibility and portability, the AGS-101 is the king.
+ Seriously the best gameboy display.
+ Plays GBA, GBC and GB games.
+ Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery.
+ Extremely portable.
+ Good folding design protect the system when not in use.
- Folding design can be broken by over extension.
- Buttons are clicky. (no travel)
- It gets uncomfortable after an hour or so.
- Original GB and GBC games play in only a portion of the screen, or stretched out. (eww!)
For comfort and nostalgia, the DMG-01.
+ Best buttons by far. (can be swapped with a NES gamepad).
+ It's easier to hold for many hours.
+ Battery life is insane! (30+ hours)
+ Display is pretty decent when it's backlit and biverted. (this can cost some serious money)
- Stock display sucks. (peasoup green, ghosting and not backlit)
- Screen cover scratches if you look at it. (buy replacements)
- Only plays GB games.
- Screen is tinted to a color. (peasoup green, sky blue, neon pink, but no perfect greyscale here)
- Uses 4 AA batteries. (May I suggest a set of eneloops.)
I have all the various gameboy models, but I always end up using my AGS-101.

Best design for gaming? The original GBA. Now that you can mod them with AGS-101 screens, it's no contest. It comes down to comfort during playing -- while the SP had lots of advantages, the damn thing is just too uncomfortable to play for any length of time.

The Gameboy Advance is my favorite hands down. I modded mine with a screen from a broken SP so now it is nice and backlit.
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!
