The Japanese viewed consoles to be kinda like boardgames, that is why they have a short cable. You are to bring it out, hook it up, play the game, then put it up and put it in storage. Not leave it hookedup.BoringSupreez wrote:Genesis and 2600 are the same way. It sucks. On that note, this is how I game in my basement retro room. All of my consoles down there are kept on shelves above the TV. Aside from the headache of figuring out how to have all of them hooked up, I'd have a huge wire length problem. So I came up with the idea of just having NONE of them hooked up. The TV sits on a dresser, one drawer houses all my AV and power cables and another drawer houses all my controllers and whatnot. When I wanna play a console I take it down off the shelf, plug in the power (I have a power strip right there) and plug the AV into the TV's front input.fastbilly1 wrote:The Japanese viewed consoles to be kinda like boardgames, that is why they have a short cable. I am just going to make a snake that has RCA, Svideo, Component, VGA, HDMI, and power. And have it close to where I sit, so I dont have to worry about what connection goes to where, I have them all within a few feet.Ziggy587 wrote:On that note, this is how I game in my basement retro room. It's a bit disappointing you don't see advanced front inputs much.Ziggy587 wrote:On that note, this is how I game in my basement retro room. Throw a bone to us component users, please?

For my HDTV setup, where everything remains connected, I bought one of these specifically to have component inputs for the PSP Slim.theclaw wrote:It's a bit disappointing you don't see advanced front inputs much.

In addition to that, you could just use a male to female extension cable to make use of your rear inputs in the front. You could get something like this then use use a short ~3' cable.

That's cool. I've seen that done in some game room pics before. I would totally do something like that, but my room isn't that big. When I take a console down from the shelf I just sit it on the floor between me and the TV and have more than enough controller wire length. It also isn't so far away that it becomes annoying to switch games or hit the reset or whatever.fastbilly1 wrote:I am just going to make a snake that has RCA, Svideo, Component, VGA, HDMI, and power. I've been meaning for the longest time to get some new game room pics to post here, mainly because I talk about it all the time, but my room is always trashed being the basement and all. Luckily, and I say that with much sarcasm, my basement recently flooded and I had to get a new carpet for that room. So that kinda forced me to clean the room a bit.

I am very interested in seeing them if you ever get around to posting them.Ziggy587 wrote:That's cool. I've seen that done in some game room pics before. My game room is about 900 sq feet in a reversed E where you come down the center point. It is also my den and our wetbar. So I have one section that is gaming, but it can spill out to the rest if need be.

Yeah that one is alright. If a bit picky.Ziggy587 wrote:For my HDTV setup, where everything remains connected, I bought one of these specifically to have component inputs for the PSP Slim.theclaw wrote:It's a bit disappointing you don't see advanced front inputs much.

Genesis may have screen rolling with an RGB-to-component encoder on color-intense scenes (notably Ice Cap Zone), like I noted here.

FYI, 3rd party (HORI) SFC controllers have longer cords. Nintendo did make 1st party SFC controllers with 6 foot cords. They are very rare. I own one and it's the one I use the most. Instead of "Super Famicom" written on it, it says " Sharp SF1". It was for the SFC/TV combo.

Thank to hashiriya1 for hooking me up with a busted super famicom controller, now I could test it out and sure enough it looks great.

Also noticed the inside of the shell is labeled for both the super famicom and SNES, how would you like that job just putting in buttons all day long...
