Whatsup guys, I've been away for a while...but I'm back at Super Metroid and taking a break from it now, so naturally I logged in here, punched "super metroid" into the search box, and found this thread...I had forgotten about it

Since older posts I have beaten Metroid II...I did enjoy it.. though I used a map from Metroidatabase (I think I got it from there) but had to edit out all the g.d. spoilers in MS Paint. I also learned that some areas overlap others which could horribly distort one's sense of direction. Hats off to anyone who beat it without a map, and more so to anyone who beat it without color  I ended up going with the "Metroid 2 DX" patch. Aside from a flickering final boss it was perfect. ..Cool level design..and the Spider Ball(!), that thing is cool...cool game.

I've messed around with the Metroid Lua script and the improvements are very welcome! Though I still can't survive very long in that game. I found a bunch of cool hacks too: some update Samus' sprite (2 are completely redrawn as I understand) and update some other game features..there's one hack that gives it LoZ style saving and a minimap when you pause it! Some day I'll give it a serious go, maybe.

..On the topic of Other M, I didn't finish it...got very far, got to a boss that stumped me, and forgot to play it again. I don't own it anymore. But I can now agree that the story and cutscenes are horrible and boring, and the gameplay is pretty stripped-down...but if I didn't have to sit through hours of abysmal cutscenes I probably would have given it another go before selling it. Oh well.

On this current playthrough of SM I got stuck a few times...times I didn't get stuck on my first playthrough...but I'm back on course now. I covered some ground, cleared Maridia, space jumped my way into the Ridley-mouth-entrance and got stomped by the Chozo statue...alas. I had forgotten to save since prior to completing Maridia. Maybe tomorrow...

Some time ago I found myself enjoying Prime, but ended up putting it down and forgot to play it again too. I don't own that one anymore either. Maybe I'll pick up a copy of the reissued Trilogy if I remember to spend money on it.

Anyway, at this point I'm quite impressed with the 2D Metroids. I would love to see a 2.5D Metroid...as dense as the classics but 2.5D.. not sure I have to elaborate on why that would be cool. It would be cool.

AM2R is closer to being done I hear and after playing the original I do believe I will be able to appreciate it more. I messed around with the newest demo and it's very well done.

Cheers, to Metroid.

Can't wait for the Retron 5 so I can finally play Metroid Fusion. I can't bear playing that on a portable for some reason.

I really need to pick up Metroid II. Had it as a kid, but I must have lost it in a move. One of the best Game Boy games, period.

I've been itching to play some Metroid lately. I, too, think that I'll wait for the Retron 5 - then I'm gonna roll through the GBA port of the original game, Zero Mission, and Fusion.

I can't emphasis how much I love Metroid. Second next to Zelda for me for 20 some years now, but... I just seriously can't do Metroid II. I have tried playing it pretty much over the course of my whole life so far, and after a good hour or two I just can't keep going. I'll never be able to sit down and finish that one completely, lol. Some don't seem to like going back to the original but I could play that one forever. Just can't do II with the lack of colors, music, and Samus' sprite is enormous. Some of the powerups were interesting though.
