Re: Whats the Most Overrated Game?
Ys (aka Y's) is overrated???
To me the most overrated series are Resident Evil and Metal Gear.
With the exception of part 4, every RE game is sub-mediocre. 1-3 are slow and clunky and dull, and 5/6 are AAA shooter crap.
As for Metal Gear, the 8-bit games are a chore to play (yes, even the "good" MSX version of the first one) and the Metal Gear Solid titles are pretentious long-winded cutscene-laden cures for insomnia.

1994: Ballz 3D
1995: Secret of the Stars
1996: Bug Too!
1997: Final Fantasy 7
1998: Batman & Robin
1999: Superman
2000: Blues Brothers 2000
And my Game of the Decade for the 2000s? Pong Toss! Frat Party Games

Re: Whats the Most Overrated Game?
The one game that keeps popping up as "Game of The Year" or "Game of This Generation" is:
THE DARING GAME FOR GIRLS (Wii)
Multiple respected video game critics have discussed its life-like graphics, its impeccable game play mechanics, and the stagering genius of its design. Despite its relatively new release complete copies usually sell on eBay for $100+, and the game has inspired multiple fan-sites and tomes of critical analysis and poorly written fan-fiction. It also routinely tops "Top 100" or "Best Video Games of All Time" lists, and I have read of people naming their children after the game's beloved characters.
That said...I just do not understand why people love this game so much. I liked certain parts of it, like learning "educational facts about famous women in history and then excel[ing] in Pop Quizzes", but the mini-games did not rise to the standard set by Busy Scissors and its progeny. I found many of the characters to be two-dimensional at best; the soundtrack is often generic; and the concept of "choice" at the center of its design are limited by the medium. In short, The Daring Game for Girls - despite the praise routinely heaped upon it, is the most...

Re: Whats the Most Overrated Game?
True. But in 1992, overhyped and overrated were the same thing. At least for me.BoringSupreez wrote:Overhyped and overrated are two different things.
I recieved all my game information from EGM/Nintendo Power, so when they hyped the shit out of a game, it had to be good right? RIGHT?!?
EGM did credit Bubsy for Most Hyped Character in 1993: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubsy_(series)
