GTA 4 imo is one of the most overrated games ever. It was just a dull game overall.

Zelda... I gave the Zelda games on NES and SNES a try and just can't get into them. Then again I'm just not much of an RPG player (too me any game where I'm spending a lot of time chatting is an RPG).

Every Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare 2.

Halo - I come from a background in PC Deathmatch games such as Quake and Tribes. To me Halo was an insult as it was praised by many to be extremely inovative when it really wasn't.

Words with Friends / Angry Birds - need a explain why?

I believe number ratings are worthless and you should decide for yourself whether a game is good. A reviewer's score represents his own evaluation (or how much he was paid) of course. Text or video is more useful, but still can be completely wrong or irrelevant.

The general consensus these days is influenced by review scores; people buy a game "because it's a 95" and avoid it "because it's a 75."

So, I have trouble saying a certain game is liked too much. The things I like are pretty unusual (in life, not necessarily in games. Those tastes are just mildly unusual).

I could call a game overrated or "overliked" if I think it fails at the things most people like it for, or if I don't see how anyone could enjoy it. Xenosaga and storytelling/religious symbolism for example. Kingdom Hearts for being terrible at everything but music.

On the other hand, I would call a game underrated if most people dislike it for - the reason it got low ratings - things that didn't matter that much. A few months ago, we had a long discussion about Star Ocean 3 and whether the dumbed down item crafting and terrible plot twist made it a bad game. I thought it didn't, because because awesome battles, environments, and music were the game's focus.

Everyone knows there's no correlation between popularity and quality. While quality and review scores are usually related, there are so many anomalies I just regard them as extended box descriptions. Nothing to get excited about no matter how good or bad. Sometimes you do get a review that says something academic or interesting, but those are a rare treat and can't be found in the score box.

I'll gladly participate in this thread though. I'd love some discussion about games I've played. List making not so much.
