Yup. The Game Boy Player supports the Progressive Scan mode too. It looks a LOT better. I'm not looking into a Wii anytime soon, I know those component cables are way cheaper. I didn't mind what I spent, because it's just nice to have them if only for a collector's item.

Now a question, I was reading back over the SNES and its RGB capabilities -- a good way to do so would be with a SNES SCART cable and a SCART-to-Component converter box. Both are readily available -- but how would the audio get to the TV? The AV port is going to be taken by the SCART cable and the component cables can only transmit a video signal.
Collector value and the Game Boy Player are really the only reason to get a GC component cable, but I sure as hell won't be getting rid of mine, I love my 'cube, just giving a suggestion to people who aren't willing to drop 70-140 dollars on a single cable.

As for your question, I'm not really one to answer, but I'd assume the best course of action would be some type of splitter, or a SCART to Component converter that includes audio leads of some sort, reasonably sure that exists. I don't like using transcoders, honestly, it's expensive, and I'm lazy, so I just get the best signal I can use with my TV without modifying my consoles.

Most people do an audio breakout mod to the cables, so the audio can be passed to the TV. Or, mod your RGB-YPbPr box to output the audio, which is actually pretty easy most of the time. All you gotta do is take the audio L and R pins from the SCART and wire them to RCA jacks. Pretty simple.

What I have done is added RGB and Sync RCA jacks to my SNES, that way I don't even have to bother with the SCART cable (my transcoder doesn't have a SCART input anyway). So I output RGB with added RCA jacks, then I just use a standard composite or S-Video Nintendo AV cable for audio.

Either way, you have to modify something.

I'm lazy too. I was just curious is all. I'm learning a lot from this thread :)

What you need is anything that passes audio to the outside world. A general example of what it'd look like.

Transcoders do not modify the consoles. Just common sense, you can't process a signal that doesn't exist.

This be a pretty good solution to your question.

Ok, so that outputs audio, but how would I get that and a component switch box to work together?

- SNES scart cable to the audio switch box and audio out to Component Audio In
- A separate SCART-to-SCART cable to go from the audio box to the Component box
- Component box to Component Video In

Do I have that right, I'd have to chain those boxes, one for audio and one for video?

^^
RGB SCART cable from console goes to one of the inputs in the switcher box,
RGB SCART to SCART interconnect cable goes from the TV input of the switcher box and then to the SCART to Component converter,
The audio cables go from the switcher box to the relevant audio connections on your TV,
and the component cables go to the relevant video connections on your TV.

Should look similar to this setup:

Sounds right. Just what I needed to know. Thanks!

I'm tempted; But pretty much only for the Game Boy Player more or less (the reason I have the Cube in the first place :D). Since it's PAL I'd be using forced 480p/576p with Swiss (and maybe 16:9, just out of morbid curiousity as to what it'd do with the Game Boy Player) and Component cables, and maybe with a scanline generator because why not.
Worth it? What's the lowest general price? Also I think I'll check out how other NGC games look with forced Swiss on the Wii first before I continue considering.
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.
