I would agree normally, but usually find Medved's stuff to be better supported/argued than the usual riff raff.

I think his basic point is that the American expansionism was less Hitler and more "we're going to take this land, and if you don't get out of the way we won't be held responsible". Did the settlers fuck up the native peoples? Of course. Was it willful and systematic extermination? Not really.

That's ignoring stuff that was very intentional cultural and human extermination like Dawes Severalty Act, Wounded Knee, hateful response to loss at Little Bighorn, propaganda of the era, etc.
