I gotta say ... saying this generation is over because the next generation is finishing first gear is a stretch. It always takes a couple years for the next gen to become current gen as the current generation now begins winding down. I would say, this generation isn't going to be "last gen" until 2015, maybe 2016 even. Wii is probably the only exception in the generation, since it's titles dwindled prematurely. Unless some of those games that never got localized came out ... that would be nice.

I don't really ever feel like the common denominator platform of the generation is all that special.
I suppose it depends on how I'm introduced to each. But I felt that about PS2 and the DS. Like ... what's special about being the one everyone uses? A lot of the games aren't there because they need to be there, like that's the only place we could do these things, they're there, because everyone has one. Just a personal thing, I guess. The DS has great games, but at this point in time, there's no real special place in my heart or anything. It just kind of feels like it's just there and it's constant, so how do you rate that?
I think, overall, I'd have to say PS3. Just because, I thought it was going to be dog shit ... and it was for a couple years. The exclusives on it aren't just good ... they're really good. Like really really really good. They're some of the best games of the generation.

I like the Wii a lot,
but it's always rubbed me the wrong way, and I can't really describe it. There's tons of great games. The controls don't bother me. I've played tons of games on it, etc. But for some reason ... I just ... I don't know, it feels like all the games I like on it ... they're good ... but they're not the next step. I didn't really play anything and was like, "wow, this is it". I mean, I loved Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, they're great, phenomenal even, but I never felt like "oh wow, this is amazing" and I have felt that with other games this generation. NSMBW was a great game ... but I feel like ... because I had already played New Super Mario Bros. on DS ... it stole a lot from that game's thunder. I think that ... if the DS game never came out and they released NSMBW, I would have been blown away and loved it more. And there's other just fantastic games ... but I just, I don't know. I like it, but I kind of don't care. In some ways, I just feel like its library was a step back from what Nintendo was putting out on GameCube, and I think that bothered me. To be honest .... I think Smash Bros. Brawl is what made me go ":) ... :| .... :\" on the system. I loved Melee way too much, and Brawl did not deliver for me.
So far for next gen. I think Wii U might be staying up on my lists. I'm really liking the thing so far, and PS4 looks great ... but it doesn't really look like it's doing anything new. Xbox doesn't have a chance of topping any of my lists, so it really is a two horse race for my gamer-affection. As it stands, I'm seeing new Nintendo titles that look awesome, and I'm seeing maybe four PS4 games that would make me go "yep, getting one of those soon" (MGSV and Rime come to mind) So, I'll see how it goes. But, I don't think any of the systems are going to really blow anyone away unless they start bringing new stuff.

It's a system full of memories, and the first system to convince me that handhelds were capable of providing similar experiences as home consoles.

If I remember correctly you are also pretty young right? Like 17? So when the DS came out you were 8? So you probably grew up with it. It will always be in your heart then :). We just can never think bad of the systems we grew up with.

....and now that I think about it, it's amazing how many children probably grew up with the PS2 and DS, because of their very long lifetime. Us 80/90s kids didn't have this luxury since most console cycles didn't last more than 5 years....with the exception of the gameboy I guess. That's probably why it was such common part of everyone's childhood. The only handheld out there that lasted a decade. (Till the DS)

Agreed, but the PS2 library is just so damn...well, good! There are tons of quality games from every single genre and the majority of them are dirt cheap. I'm happy that Sony is keeping the good times rollin'.

Special place in my heart? Don't make me laugh. But the PSP is my favorite system this generation. I've put more hours into it than any other platform and there are still over 100 games I want. Its library is absolutely brilliant. There were a lot of cool new ideas, but also the new-old-school style games that had never been done before. It may be known for ports and remakes, but I love it for that. The system had great sound and a huge screen and was the most comfortable handheld I've...held.

I don't care that much about the hardware, but Miku will always have a place in my heart.

PS3 really won me over this generation. Games that really won me over were the Uncharted series, Infamous(still need to get 2 :P), The Last of Us(pretty late to the party but it was a great game), Heavy Rain, and the exclusive HD remake compilations for KH and Ico & SotC. Plus the addition of the Bluray player was a nice bonus.

Although I do have to say the 360 won in the shooter department in my opinion the controller feels much better for FPS games and they had the always great Halo series to boost them up :).

The Wii on the other hand got very little attention from me. Didn't really keep my attention to long when I first bought it and it's only just recently that I started picking up more games for it.

I could probably live my entire life on a deserted island with my psp (and a solar usb charger of course) I literally have a lifetime supply of games loaded on that little thing. I just need to upgrade my 64GB card to a 128GB one.

I would have strong feelings for my 360 days when the time comes. Heavily involved in the Far Cry community will always be cherished in my heart I spent 4 years plus dedicated to that game and made friends with the best mappers in the world. 1000+ hours invested 100s of maps later still my favorite game ever!

The PS3 on the other hand is wrapping up this gen like a beast, niche titles & Sony love I would say I would hold it high as well.

Wii Meh, PSP nice yes!!

You know, I think they all brought something good to the table. For consoles, I loved a few of the exclusives for PS3 like Uncharted, but the 360 had a broader stable of games that I enjoyed. Yet neither match the experiences I had on the Wii. The other systems may have had more to play, but experiencing both Mario Galaxy games, both Zelda games, two wildly different Metroid games, the rebirth of old-school, 2-D sidescrollers from Nintendo on consoles (including two Kirby games!), and tons of overlooked gems just make me side with the Wii overall.

If we're talking handhelds, I loved both the DS and the PSP, but the DS wins this one hands-down, simply because I got three Castlevania games out of the mix. Plus some great RPGs like the Dragon Quest remakes and Radiant Historia, and the sublime Bowser's Inside Story.

Now, whether any of them will supplant the older consoles for my top spot... that remains to be seen. Probably not. I still hold the NES and SNES up as my favorite consoles ever, but the DS makes a very strong play on best handheld ever, and brings with it the ability to play games from the other platform that has a strong contention for best handheld ever.

Close; I just turned 20 last July. :) My first system was a Game Boy Pocket, but the DS was the system with which I matured into the gamer I am today.

There are things I dislike about all three consoles this gen. So it's hard to pick and say I hold either one very highly. Microsoft introduced and pushed certain things this gen that I don't like. Nintendo told hardcore gamers to kiss their ass. The PS3 has a lot of things I like, but there are certain things about it that irritate me like the large number of games that don't let you back up your save data, or the lower number of trophies compared to 360 achievements in a lot of multi-platform games, not to mention just the lower quality in general of a lot of PS3 ports when compared to their 360 counterparts.

Looking at how I feel about the gaming scene right now, I've come out of it loving portables more than anything. I love the Vita and the 3DS. And while I'll be a console guy until the day I die (or the day consoles themselves die), I have developed some small amount of appreciation for the PC scene because of all the really awesome little indie exclusives. Even the non-exclusive stuff often hits PC first like Hotline Miami did.

My gaming platforms of choice right now are 3ds, Vita, and PC. I don't even care all that much about the PS4 or Xbox One. Also, with a busy life, there's a convenience factor to these platforms I've come to appreciate. It's easier to start up a game on Vita or 3DS, since I never really have to turn them on with their sleep modes, just wake them up and play. Plus, the load times on a lot of their games are fast and I notice it's just generally faster to get to the title screen on most games than it is when playing a 360 or PS3 game. It's easy to play a portable game pretty much anywhere or anytime. As for PC games, if you work at home like I often do or are using your PC for checking email, facebook, etc., it's very easy to start up a PC game since you're already in front of the thing and have it on
