Eww, a RetroDuo and not a real SNES?

But cool, a flash cart. Which one do you have?

Currently reading about "The 7th Saga II" and "Legend of the Fire Emblem" in old issues of Nintendo Power. Amazing.

Ah man I wish I could tell ya, but I can't remember. I've been casually flipping through about 50 old issues of NP during the past few hours.

A couple of issues had sizable features about games like Dragon Quest VI, Star Ocean, Tactics Ogre, "Genesis" (Terranigma), Tales of Phantasia... Way to get American gamers excited for nothing.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but check out volume 87. There's a big write-up about Fire Emblem starting on page 56. This isn't the one that calls it "Legend of the Fire Emblem" though - that was much older.

Then jump ahead a few volumes to 94. Check out page 6/7 where they show the envelope artwork. Some kid drew some nice Fire Emblem and Tactics Ogre artwork! - she probably got duped into thinking the games were coming to North America! I feel kinda bad for her.

I love the SNES.

I believe its the greatest console ever built , even though the N64 is probably my favorite (maybe because for nostalgic reasons) . Though its very hard to get into the SNES thing today simply the SNES had an archaic saving system (I believe most games if you shutdown the console progress is gone), they don't play well with HDTVs , cartridge storage takes lots of space, and the system is pretty old making find working ones not an easy process.

Even more so, games in the SNES era were made to be kind of brutal and not be done over in 12hrs like today. I remember I played FF6 I think for almost 2 months! So it needs dedication. Games were unforgiving (Aladdin, Earthworm Jim,Battletoads..etc)

The best thing to happen was the VC on Wii, and while I was expecting the whole gaming library to be put on there (Since you can find the whole thing in only 1.7GB file around the internet) , I was surprised that the releases were very limited.

I'd love to get my hands on some SNES games but with my backlog , its just so hard.

wow Lofia II.....my first entry to the amazing world of SNES JRPGs. I should really REALLY try to track down a cartridge of that game. The original too (never beat the first one).

Are the GBA/DS sequels any good?

I believe the SNES had more games that saved progress than the NES and Genesis, but yeah, it's a retro console. There were plenty of games that used password systems instead of saving game progress. That's just the way it was back then. Calling it archaic sounds a little weird though.
RCBH928 wrote:they don't play well with HDTVs
Well it depends on your TV, some HDTVs cannot display the 240p resolution. But this is the case with all retro consoles (PS1, N64, everything below).

Umm... what?

FF6 took you two months, so you're saying all SNES games are brutal because of that? And you're saying all games today are over in 12 hours? And you're saying Aladdin on the SNES is unforgiving?

FF6 is an RPG, and yeah, they usually take a while to beat. Most RPGs today are longer than 12 hours. SNES games can range from taking a short time to complete to taking dozens of hours (mostly just the RPGs). Some games are easy, some games are hard. Just like games do today. Nothing has changed there. So I really don't understand what you're saying.

Aladdin is unforgiving? If you were to say Ninja Gaiden on the NES is unforgiving, I'd say OK. But Ninja Gaiden and Aladdin aren't even in the same ball park.

I love this kind of stuff. In Volume 26 (with Robin Hood on the cover), there's a hugeass poster featuring a bunch of screen shots from upcoming games. It does have a disclaimer: "Here are shots of 29 games that may make their way to the Super NES. They range from rumors to sure things. Most of them have either already been released for or are currently be developed for the Japanese Super Famicom System (four baseball games already). Some of the names will change for the American market."

Here's the games they list exactly as the titles appear:

Super Mario World
F-Zero
Zelda III
Pilotwings
Super Play Action Football
Gradius III
Super Bases Loaded
Super R-Type
Augusta Golf (depicting Augusta National Golf Course, home of The Masters. This only got release in Japan, and ANGC would not give the OK for a game to depict their course again until 2011.)
Darius
Final Fight
Drakkhen
SimCity
Actraiser (no capital R)
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Jumbo Ozaki's Hole In One (changed to HAL's Hole in One Golf in the US)
Castlevania IV
Populous
U.N. Squadron
Super Ultra Baseball
Battle Dodge Ball
Gadulin (looks like an RPG?)
SD The Great Battle
Ultra Man
Big Run
D-Force
Bombuzal
Final Fantasy II
