Shitty wasn't the right word. I just wouldn't give my money to MS. They're are money hungry and shady as all hell. I should have said shitty-er I guess. I don't feel conformable giving MS $500 because I feel that at any time I can have the wool pulled over my eyes. Compared to one another they're practically the same except one doesn't look like a VCR and doesn't include a peeping tom.

All companies are 'money hungry' as they are profit driven. Sony has many times been referred to as an evil empire due to some of their practices. While there is merit in saying MS has shady practices at times, they are no worse than any of the others especially Sony.

Atm they don't look as bad as MS. They stayed out of the whole 'ban used games' fiasco, have a low price, and are supporting indie devs. By money hungry I mean they go out of their way to unneeded and excessive things to squeeze every last penny out of you and me. Sony is no saint by any means but right now they're aren't looking too shabby.

You lack a recent historical perspective. I still don't see one as being any more shady than the other. They had a business model that many embraced but ultimately was not that popular so they changed course.

I have a PS4 preordered now and not a XB1, and mostly because of lower price point and no forced Kinect integration. However, I am sure I will be getting the XB1 sooner than later.

Yeah I guarantee 3 or 4 years ago or so you'd be declaring Sony the most evil company ever.

You never know what the gaming landscape might look like in the future either.

Their business model failed because they tried to nickle and dime the consumer. It was completely unnecessary to ban used games (everybody here can agree), put a fee, force kinect, etc. I know they did this to dive into the all-digital age faster than Sony but the way they way they did it made them look money hungry and gave the 'we don't care about you' outlook to the consumer. I'll buy a XB1 but in the $300 -$250 range. For the moment they have dropped the nickle and dime attitude but because of their track record there is no telling when It'll come back. That's what I mean by shady.

No we already had a long discussion on this here and not everyone did agree. They also didn't ban used games, but would havr seriously controlled them. However, they have since reversed that model or plan. There were rumors Sony was contemplating a similar model, but scrapped it when they saw some of the polarizing feedback from the MS announcement. They then used it as a PR and marketing tactic, but who knows?

I think they had some good ideas that wouldve offered some conveniences similar to Steam, but were off on some of the implemenation. They tried to dictate the digital shift a little too much instead of riding it. But at some point or another, the jump will be made.

Yeah, you were here when we had this discussion, there was not unilateral agreement, at all. The way that they changed actually makes them look responsive to their customer base and not shady to me. They tried to innovate (in a way that sounded great, very Steam-like, but better) and their customers weren't happy and so they changed. Really the only thing that was off was the messaging and how it was presented. Who wants two consoles that are basically the same? I'm glad they still have a Kinect in every box, I hope they keep that, as least we'll get a little more innovation there hopefully.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Allow me to help you out. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are ALL companies who are out for you money. That's why they exist.

I actually feel like Microsoft has been the most "honest" so far. They shared their plans, people didn't like them, they changed them. They're packing in the Kinect because they feel like that is going to be a way to really differentiate their system. Having it in every box makes it much more likely developers will look for interesting ways to use it. They're hoping to save it from being another doomed peripheral that gets minimal support. Yes, they changed planned policies because they want you to buy their console (those bastards).

Sony came out with a campaign that was more focused around status quo, a lower price, and picking on Microsoft. They had a camera that looked interesting but pulled it from the package to get the price down. Now it will likely end up like the older Playstation Eye or Move, i.e. barely supported. They snuck in that they were picking up some of the "features" of their competition that they have mocked in the past (paid multiplayer) but people don't seem to care. They also are pre-installing some Kinect party-like game that looks like it really needs the camera that you don't have. They removed the camera to get the price down because they want you to buy their console (those bastards).

To Nintendo's credit, their biggest blunders as of late seem to be out of incompetence moreso than malice.
