Why should you buy the PS4?

Post by oxymoron »

I have a preorder placed but atm i'm don't know why I should buy it. Idk really care for the free games because I already have that. It's called emulation. The launch titles are so-so. It just seems like an upgraded PS3. Nothings really giving me the 'must have' feeling. Why are you guys buying it? Besides the fact that you have disposable money.

I'll buy it eventually when it has worthwhile exclusives and the prices are down. I don't see any reason to be an early adapter at this point. I only have a handful of PS3 games so it's not like I'm in a hurry, I'll buy cheap used PS3 games for a couple of years.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Speaking of cheap PS3 games, when do you think GS will start to get rid of there stock?

I'm not buying it until it's under $300.

I'm just buying one because I like shiny new things. At launch there aren't any 'must haves' for me. But there are definitely a few games I MIGHT get. Maybe Watch Dogs. And there should be some decent indie game crossbuys w/ Vita/PS4. Also makes PS+ an even better deal since I have a PS3 and Vita as well.

It's also just a system I knew I would want anyway. Where as the Xbox One is something I'll only be getting if there are exclusives I need. So that'll probably be a buy eventually too.

Yeah I hate when $400 falls out of my pockets.

I was watching Raw&Smackdown episodes from 2003 today and saw a commercial for Xbox, 180 dollars brand new with 2 games  And 2 controllers too if I recall. Granted they were crappy games, but still. Then again, dollar was much more valuable back then.

That $180 would be $228 in today's dollars if crappy web inflation calculators are anything to go by.

I think it'd be more fair to compare the launch prices. The original Xbox launched at $299, which (again, according to a random web calculator) is $394 in 2013 dollars, so yeah even with inflation taken into account these new consoles are pretty damn expensive. :P

Of course you're basically getting a multimedia set top box these days as opposed to just a game console (for better or worse), but still.

I'm buying a PS4 for multiple reasons:

1) We happened to have the disposable income this year (which doesn't happen all that often).

2) Seeing all of the capabilities of the system, the quality of the graphics, and the attitude Sony is taking to ensure it doesn't repeat it's missteps from last gen all have me really excited.

4) The price. I was immediately turned off of the XBO because of the anti consumer policies M$ was implementing. Then was further turned off by the price of $499. While I am interested in the XBO after M$ reversed their policies, I will still have to wait for a price drop.

All in all, I think the PS4 is going to be amazing. The announced games like Destiny and The Order all have me super excited. I can't wait to get my hands on them.
