It probably doesn't count, but I do love the shooter sections in The Red Star on the PS2, which is essentially every boss fight
I've been meaning to play that game for so long. Looks like it has both beat em up and shooter moments in the game along with a story from a comic book. Sounds perfect but I can never find a copy of it any where.

They should still have some. I wish I had gotten one of those autographed ones. I love this game. I've got two copies, one sealed. It's one of the best designed games I've ever played. The difficulty scales gradually with each level until things get crazy in the last few levels. The game periodically introduces new enemies to keep things interesting and the three playable characters are completely different. This game is polished and it knows it, because the ranking system is based on how little damage you take because you really have no one to blame but yourself if you take a hit.

The story is barely there though, so you'd have to read the comic book to get any back story. They really focused entirely on the gameplay

Ah, thanks for the link. Just now ordered it :)

Guess I should have looked on their main site in the first place.

Alot of good shmups on your lists! here's my favorites...

NES - Gun*Nac

TG-16 - Blazing Lazers

SNES - R-Type III

Genesis - MUSHA

Sega CD - Robo Aleste

Saturn - DoDonpachi

DC - Mars Matrix

NeoGeo - Blazing Star

PS1 - Einhander

PS2 - Gradius V

Gamecube - Ikaruga

MAME - Guwange

I'm a big fan of Compile games (if you can't tell)! I really want to mod my ps2 and play some XanacXanac, Harmful Park, and all the Cave games that never made it here. Plus I've been looking for some affordable *cough* copies of GG Aleste 1 & 2 for game gear to no avail. Lots more I love for every console.
