I've been keeping my math and programming related books for reference but that's about it. The books that will only be used for one class (sociology, history, other humanities/electives) I just can't afford to keep, even though the hoarding pack-rat in me kind of wants to. I feel like holding onto the math books might not even be the best idea as they are the most expensive/most valuable.

Since i'm guessing your a practicing lawyer I'd like to ask a question. Is the career anything similar to what the media makes it seem?prfsnl_gmr wrote:Law school is expensive enough. Saving on - or recouping the cost of - textbooks that cost more than gaming consoles is key to getting through it on a budget.dsheinem wrote:In my experience the best students hang on to their books....
EDIT: I kept most of my college textbooks, BTW. New copies of those were a bit more reasonably priced, and the subject matter is generally far, far more interesting.

Yeah it wouldn't make sense for me to sell any of my books as each one is about a specific computer language... PHP, HTML, whatever...... Another one is a great CompTIA A+ Certification study guide. I need to keep them all around for reference.

I know a few lawyers, and I would be happy to ask them for you, but every time I talk to them I have to rip their teeth out of my flesh and toss them back into the cesspit of swampland from which they crawled.oxymoron wrote:Since i'm guessing your a practicing lawyer I'd like to ask a question. Not really. The courtroom is always exciting, but most of a lawyer's work is done behind a computer screen and would not make good television.oxymoron wrote: Since i'm guessing your a practicing lawyer I'd like to ask a question. Is the career anything similar to what the media makes it seem?

Did you go into the industry thinking it would be like that? Not really. The courtroom is always exciting, but most of a lawyer's work is done behind a computer screen and would not make good television.

Yes.oxymoron wrote:Did you go into the industry thinking it would be like that?
Also, just because something does not make good television does not mean that it isn't a good career choice. My work is often very interesting, very challenging, and occassionally exciting. I work with good people, and I enjoy my job very much.
