Nintendo Announces 2DS....thoughts?

I really like how my standard 3DS feels, although I couldn't stand the DS Lite. I'm getting more and more curious about the 2DS. Maybe it will feel great.

Yeah I had to get one of those Nerf armor things for my DS Lite to make it more comfortable to hold even though it killed the portability of it.

Yep. I can see how the 2DS will be nice for parents wanting a cheap 3DS for their kids and those that prefer the design as well. But the name is sure to confuse the heck out of said parents too. From the name they'd reasonably assume that it DOES NOT play 3DS games.

Exactly, lower price is definitely a GOOD thing. However, I can see parents just totally being mind#$%@ed by the naming conventions used at Nintendo.

Joking aside, people can criticize the 2DS all they want. I'm not the biggest big fan of Nintendo these days but I still think the 2DS is a brilliant move to put copies of Pokemon under Christmas trees.

And with Sony and Microsoft launching their big expensive consoles it's not a bad idea for Nintendo to go the budget route which has worked for them before.

Oh, for sure. And Sony can absolutely not compete w/ Nintendo's pricing with their Vita. I don't think they really have a way to make the Vita cheaper besides dropping memory card prices (which weren't dropped enough, IMO). The 3DS/2DS will continue to dominate the dedicated handheld market for the next 3 years until the 4DS/1DS/whatever.

exactly people bashed the Wii for it's design and cheapness and it blew the ps3 and xbox 360 away in sales. Nintendo knows its audience is generally kids and markets it towards the parents and it's done really well. That's part of why the Wii U is not doing too well right now as its rather expensive and parents will see it as something that their kids might easily break.
