Nintendo announced a non-3D, non folding portable they have dubbed "2DS". Best part it is only $130.
I think it's ugly and would much prefer the 3DSXL, but for nearly half the price, I don't know.
What are your all's thoughts?

Looks awful.
I would have been perfectly happy if they made a 3DS XL w/ no 3D and better build quality for $200. But this piece of junk w/ the regular 3DS sized screens for $130? No thanks.

I kinda like it, it's supposedly more comfortable to hold than either version of the 3DS. I might actually look into getting one if it isn't too gimped compared to the regular 3DS.

I am only interested in it if it can be modded to let me play the games on a tv.

It makes sense as a device that isn't targeted to us.
It looks like a cheaper, non-3D, handheld that can be lugged around to school. So it makes sense for a younger audience. It's even launching next to Pokemon.

It's definitely for the kids/parents with less money that need their fix of games like Pokemon.
I gotta say though, the 3DS top screens already scratch VERY easily. Can only imagine what is going to happen to these screens when they're in kid's backpacks. Not really scratch resistant like a phone, tablet, or the Vita screen.

Re: Nintendo Announces 2DS....thoughts?
I really thought Nintendo had their handheld business figured out. What.......
So, a 2D 3DS is pretty hilarious. I thought it was a joke (just like everyone else). So, a 3DS without the gimmicky screen is fine, but why isn't it folding? 3DS screens are pretty fragile as it is. It'll be ruined the moment someone puts it in their pocket. That tapered shape looks really uncomfortable too.
Wonder what the Circle Pad Pro will look like!
Nintendo says:
Further pushing the point that the 2DS isn't intended for many of us, the executive went on to say "I would just challenge... If you have a 3DS and you enjoy playing it there on a bigger screen... I wouldn't think we would expect you to be part of the buyer base."
The screen is even smaller than the standard 3DS screen? That can't be right.

More realistic game prices please while they're at it.

Re: Nintendo Announces 2DS....thoughts?
I have no use for 3D, so at the lower price point this really piqued my interest. Not a fan of the design though. Wish they would've stuck with the clamshell.
