Nintendo 2DS sounds so dumb they are going to have to change that. How about Nintendo DS XTREME or Ultra DS

They did? It makes sense for the two screens to be a clamshell. A slate is what seems awkward.

I like the 3DS as a clamshell and the Vita as a brick. It's what works for the features of each portable.

Yes. Critics were saying that Nintendo's clamshell design was unintuitive and unsightly in comparison to the PSP's design. They also believed the dual screen was nonsensical and out of left field. I agree, I like the clamshell, but I am down with this. It may not look the coolest in pictures, but I will use it.

So that means that the sole purpose was to make the system for 5-6 year olds? No. I am sure Nintendo has heard a lot of crap from consumers saying they couldn't use the 3D functionality. They want to cover all their bases by providing a hardware that everyone can use while retaining the 3DS software.

they should make it functional as a wii u pad, and perhaps allow you to play 3ds and ds games on your wii u

little kids easily broke it by bending the screen to far the wrong way. Parents will see this as a cheaper more durable option for there young kids. now that I think about this its a pretty decent idea.

the way I see it...

Good
- may feel nice even in adult hands
- may be pretty light weight
- possibly better battery life with no 3D screen
- its cheap

Bad
- could scratch really easily
- monaural sound / only stereo sound from headphones
- not made for pockets

Ugly
- the name when you really think about it
- no white/red option for the US
