When you think about the age of a lot of folks that grew up with NES / SNES / Genesis, they're probably just coming into a decent amount of money.
It's also, outside of eBay, harder to find some titles these days. I doubt I'll ever find a copy of, say, Little Samson or Power Blade 2 in the wild. And they're rare enough (and we're networked enough, these days) to command pretty hefty price points. Are they overpriced? For me, yes. But not for others, and as long as they're selling at their current price points, they will continue to be out of my reach.
(Not saying I couldn't buy them right now... but they don't overcome my internal threshold, and my inherent cheapness all the way around.)
Your journey into retro games?

Same here but I wouldn't call it cheapness. More like great deal enthusiast.Sarge wrote:When you think about the age of a lot of folks that grew up with NES / SNES / Genesis, they're probably just coming into a decent amount of money.

Heh. I'll give you that one.oxymoron wrote:Same here but I wouldn't call it cheapness. More like great deal enthusiast.
I must admit, though, that I spent more than I usually would on a cart recently, shelling out $45 for Kirby's Dream Land 3. It was the last special-chip cart that I didn't have that is unsupported by the SD2SNES.

Re: Your journey into retro games?
Well sure I might not be lacking in stores I mean I have...2-3 dedicated retro game stores. The rest are GameStops or pawnshops. And we have a lot of thrift stores so thats nice. But my point of it was I pay more then someone in Iowa would. I know this because I had to take a family trip down there and managed to find some retro game places. Their prices...omg so low. I got a stack of games for the price of maybe 1-2 games up here. And i'm talking NES games...I also managed to grab a Super Mario 64 cart as well.
But i'm sure like people in Cali have more flea markets then me...I have one...yeah one. And it's full of resellers, and people selling cheap knockoffs made in mexico. It's hard finding good stuff there.

I think I started last summer. I grew up with the gamecube and was looking for games that I missed when I decided that it might be fun to some older games too. Also there was a 25th anniversary thing in Nintendo Power for the NES.

Re: Your journey into retro games?
Other than bein an SNES kid, a friend of mine started collecting retro games a few years ago. I've spent most of my time at his place watching his collection grow and discovered systems and great games that I would have never known existed otherwise. Through this I was able to play and beat games that I haven't touched since I was a kid and it was awesome. I've learned that older systems don't suck because they're "old". If anything I discovered that most retro games are a lot better than games that are out now. I've learned that graphics aren't everything. I don't even care about graphics anymore, if anything I'd take a sprite over 3d designs anyday and now I have a shitload of gaming ahead of me. This should be a cool couple of years.
