Same thing happens with silencers/supressors, they don't reduce a gunshot to the "ptew" you hear in movies, they supress muzzle flash mostly and SOME noise .Hobie-wan wrote:Well if you want to go that far, crashing cars don't sound anything like TVs/Movies/Games. With so many cars having ABS there's generally only a tire squeal if someone is sliding sideways and there's usually just a sad metal thunk and a pathetic engine stall.TheGregzilla wrote:Thats a tough one...I suppose any game where you shatter Ice and it sounds like glass. Ive never heard real ice shatter like that.

Yes, but in theory car crash sounds could 'under the right conditions' sound like that, or decently close. But i have never seen ice break in my entire life that made a shattering sound.Hobie-wan wrote:Well if you want to go that far, crashing cars don't sound anything like TVs/Movies/Games. This is true. Also, glass won't groan like ice can.TheGregzilla wrote:Yes, but in theory car crash sounds could 'under the right conditions' sound like that, or decently close. But i have never seen ice break in my entire life that made a shattering sound.

Also, IIRC the Gex series had awful sound effects. The games were great IMO but lousy sound effects that seemed to never actually quite fit the action.

I'd have to say Baby Mario from Yoshi's Island is the worst one. The voices in the Super Mario Advance are pretty horrible too. Bravo Man for TG16 has some terrible voice samples. GBA Zelda&4 Swords with link hollering every time he swings his sword is also unbearable.
I hacked the SMA and Zelda games to remove the voices in them so I could actually enjoy them.

The buzzing noises that come from the Atari 2600. It grates on your soul.
I can't believe Atari decided to use the same sound-chip in the Atari 7800 again.

The 7800 sound degrade was a dumb move, probably done for 2600 compatibility. Weird that the older 5200 sounds so much sweeter. You just reminded me of another "portable" that has an annoying sound. The background humming buzz in a Vectrex.BurningDoom wrote:The buzzing noises that come from the Atari 2600. It grates on your soul.

The 1st run supaboys had very little to no isolation of the spakers, so it makes a high pitched buzzing noise, similar to the sound you hear after you blow your ears listening to music.
