I never got this. People should not be buying new PS4 by replacing their ps3 for the following reasons:
1)It has a very very small game library
2)Its priced higher
3) First shipments usually have issues. I bought my 360 a full year later it still had RROD
4) The good games do not roll out until about a year or 2 later(prices would have been decreased and any faults in manufacturing would have been fixed)
5)The PS3 has a huge game library
6)The games are much cheaper(many are used, while all ps4 games are new $60)
7)Depending on your model , PS3 is PS1 or/and ps2 compatible
8)Huge install base of online players
I kind of understand the ps2->ps3 jump because ps3 gave you Bluray, Online, HD, and local storage(hard drive), and it was going to play all your ps2/ps1 games that you have. PS4 does not have any new technology to add to the current ones, and even more, it will play NONE of the current games you have.
I am not against the ps4, but just saying most people should wait a bit before replacing your console.
but in the end, this will benefit me

Greed is the answer. So they can artificially stagger releases of things in different countries and price things differently in different countries. So in markets with less money, they might get things priced cheaper to still try and get money from that market that would never be able to afford (or would simply pirate) something at a high price elsewhere. But by region locking it, that prevents the 'richer' place from just getting the cheap version.
To be honest, I kind of agree with them. I know for sure a place like Egypt will not buy a $10 dvd. People over there will fight over a $1 . While where I live, or the USA, many people can afford to pay $10 for entertainment only.
If people honestly can't afford to pay those kind of prices in one country due to weak economy/poverty I have no trouble if they would decrease the prices for like $1 . Then again, I never got why England has a region lock over PAL and USA has it over NTSC while both countries' population are well off. In fact, prices for dvd's seem to be about the same in both continents.

Well , I bought it from a Walmart like place but here I will not be surprised if it is counterfeited with the Sony brand on it.
