They look shiny and silver. I cleaned them out anyway, but it didn't change anything.Ziggy587 wrote:Oh, sorry. I read this late last night, I didn't realize in the first post you said you already exchanged the controller for another one and still have the same problem.
I know you said you checked the controller port pins and that they weren't bent. But take a look at them again and see if they look like the might be corroded or real dirty. Put a flash light on them if needed.

It could be the connectors on the inside, I've seen it before. Spill some soda or water on the system and clean it up but all that leaked down in there was left. All these years later and you have a clean system outside but several pins rusted out on the inside.

I've been thinking that too. I saw on a different site that the solder points on the board get weakened over the years and can cause problems like this. I tried opening the console but one of the screws on the heat shield is stripped and I can't get it off.KDub wrote:It could be the connectors on the inside, I've seen it before. I'm going to bring it back to the store I got it from tomorrow. See what they want to do about it. I know they'll replace the console, it's just kind of a shame. Everything else about this one is perfect.

For stripped philipshead screws, you can usually use the right size flat head to get them out.

I ended up taking it back to the store and they replaced it with one that works fine. It definitely wasn't the controllers because they are both working great now. I assume it was the connections on the board, but without a soldering iron I couldn't do anything about that anyway.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
