How is it even possible that you guys are able to beat Dark Force under level 30? I've got my party members up to level 27/26 and outside of luck, or spamming Star Mists (and luck) I don't see how it's possible. I've been wiped out at least 10 times; I've checked walkthroughs on pscave for strategy tips. What am I missing here? I hate this boss!
Edit:
Well, I just beat the game, anyway. Grinding for another level on everyone seemed to help out, especially with getting GiSaResta for Ann. I still limped through the Dark Force fight with just Rudger for half the battle. Mother Brain was definitely 1000x less difficult. Didn't even need the other Star Mist, and the two Moon Dusts I stole. (Character limitations are a bitch: I like that they're called Star/Moon Atomizers in the Mega Drive version.) I realized that I don't actually know what Moon Dusts do, though. I tried to use one in the final battle, expecting to replenish my TP, and Ann wasn't even able to use it. It only targets one character, so I'm guessing they must actually be revival items.
Overall, pretty mixed about this game. Probably the only thing I don't have any qualms about is the music. (I also got a kick out of the composer's pen-name.) Ending was a bit better than the original's, but probably not by a lot. If I were seven or eight still, I'd probably be clamoring for weeks about how awesome it was. Being significantly older now, I can only feel mixed about it: It's kind of cool how they chose to end it, and at the same time, it feels a little like the writers threw their hands up nearing the deadline, and said, 'Fuck it, we're gonna do it like this. I don't wan'na hear any bitching.'
After finishing PS / II, though, the setting for III seems like the most logical follow-up--. Really not sure how anyone would expect something else.

You have played the first Phantasy Star, right?
Re: Together RPG - JRPG - Phantasy Star 2 - 7/11 -> 9/11
I have indeed.

I liked III just fine.
I'll be finished with IV soon.
I'd like to eventually play Phantasy Star Gaiden, Phantasy Star Adventure, and the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures. I believe that rounds out all the non-PSO games.

I feel fairly comfortable in my expectations for III, although it's mostly just a stepping stone to IV for me. I'm hoping the latter lives up to my expectations more than the former, really.
I don't know if you consider them part of the PSO games, but there's also Zero, Portable and Portable 2/Infinite.

Yeah, the online component is a big part of those games so I consider them to be part of the PSO realm of games rather than "classic" Phantasy Star.pierrot wrote: I don't know if you consider them part of the PSO games, but there's also Zero, Portable and Portable 2/Infinite.
What we need is a single-player Phantasy Star V!
Re: Together RPG - JRPG - Phantasy Star 2 - 7/11 -> 9/11
Moon Dews do revive a dead player, I used one at one point. If I remember correctly, It does not give them full health.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Do Moon Dews revive a dead character? I don't believe I ever used one.
Star Mists are totally essential though.
I didn't even bother to fight any battles in the final dungeon. Saved every 10 seconds or so and reset if I hit a random encounter. Cheap? Yes - but I reached Dark Force with full HP/MP/items.
EDIT: this may be different from the american/japanese versions. because in the US version star mists give everyone full health.
Re: Together RPG - JRPG - Phantasy Star 2 - 7/11 -> 9/11
Star Mists give full health to all party members in the JP version too. I'm going to assume Moon Dews also revive a party member in both versions, as all signs point to that being the case. I had thought that there was an item that replenishes TP, but apparently that's not the case. Sorry if I was causing any confusion.

I don't think there are TP refilling items in any of the 4 main Phantasy Star games. Gotta conserve that shizzzzzz.
We're about a little more than halfway through this Together RPG. Now is the time to start if you haven't yet!

I'm sorta playing Phantasy Star IV just for fun right now.
