Isnt this kinda of what modern consoles already do? I cant remember the times when I've just wanted to play a game on my Xbox 360 and it has forced me to wait untill the game has been patched. It's true though that you dont have to mess with game files manually on consoles, but being able to do so is one of good things a PC offers that consoles don't (modding game files etc)

But if you are making games for Ouya, anyone will be able to download them and every game will work with your controller because it is standardized.

Anyway, I plan on getting one. It's only 99 bucks and has a ton of potential. Plus, people have already made tons of emulators for Android, so at the very least I can see it being a really solid emulation machine.

I'm siding with you and getting one. I know how you feel when you say that you have to spend alot optimizing the PC. It would take me at least 120 dollars and hours of time just to get Minecraft working on my PC. Plus the 99 dollar price point did help my decision.

I am cautiously optimistic about the Ouya.

Some semi-unrelated thoughts on this project:

1. Lack of lots of 3D graphics capability does not bother me at all. A platform that encourages new, 2D IPs is exciting to me.

2. Personally I think $100 is a fair price to pay for a good emulation machine with a decent controller and modern video-out of some kind, even if it does nothing else.

3. It seems to me that the quality of Android game is going, generally, up over time. There have also been some interesting ports to the Android system recently.

4. Dedicated Ouya developers are not required (though that would be cool). Nor are Ouya-specific games necessarily a requirement. All they need are developers to make the Android-based games that they were going to make anyway with support for an external controller.

5. It could royally suck or be vaporware.

I agree, graphics don't bother me either and it doesn't matter about them it's all about the game.

How is this possible? My PC, made with parts from over 10 years ago, runs Minecraft well.

What are they trying to do here exactly? Isn't it time to throw in the towel?

I've had one for like a month and a half now. Works fantastically, I love the concept- games are pretty bad though. Most of the stuff they have are either flash style games that aren't even as good as basic newgrounds crap, or tech demos. So many tech demos. There's a couple of legitimately good games (most of which are available on PC, though).

It mostly just gets used as an emulation box in my house, and for this it sees about as much play as anything else I have (other than my PC/Steam).

Is anyone else looking to get one and just leave it boxed? Maybe one day it will turn into one of those consoles that sold low numbers and nobody kept.
