If you haven't heard about this console click the link below. GameInformer recently did an article on it. I'm still a little bit fuzzy on the whole concept.

Thoughts On the Ouya?
I WANT
Re: Thoughts On the Ouya?
I already hate the console based on the number of repetitive threads it generates and based on a future userbase who doesn't use forum search features.

Everyone is, and I think they are milking it for all it's worth. No one has any idea how to actually make money on this, or who will have the balls to "publish" on a system which brags about its root-ability.mlavindude wrote:I'm still a little bit fuzzy on the whole concept.

It will make money the same way games on PC make money. Just because you can root, pirate, etc. doesn't mean everybody will (or that even the majority will).Zing wrote:Everyone is, and I think they are milking it for all it's worth. If this makes its way to store shelves I would buy it.... MAYBE. I don't know if it could even get to store shelves.

Re: Thoughts On the Ouya?
I love the concept. It's basically a way for indie pc devs to get there game to the console market. People harp on the fact that it's only as powerful as a tablet, but having a viable controller built in is more important, in my mind, than actual cpu or gpu processing power.
If the console doesn't succeed, at the very least I hope it becomes a way to play Limbo, Super Meat Boy, various freeware games, VVVVV, etc. on my TV.
I hope it does succeed though. Because I'd love to see people download VVVVV and be like "I could make a better game than that" and then develop a game for the system.
The potential downfall of the system could be the same reason why I hate the iPhone, where the ratio of good games to complete trash is 1:1000. If it has a good rating system where the number of downloads doesn't count as much as some sort of mathematical function that takes in number of downloads, ratings, etc. And will promote a game to some sort of suggested download list, not just based on the number of downloads, it could be an excellent success.
I support it fully.

I don't see the point. Why not just make games for PC? Most people already have a PC and it has all the same benefits. I guess this is just my bias as an avid PC gamer.

Re: Thoughts On the Ouya?
JT's got a pretty good point here- the Ouya seems to be trying to cater to the, let's face it, minority market of those who want to tinker with their kit and get the most out of it using their own skills, yet it's also trying to position itself as a kind of go-to point for games, and have a mass-market appeal. Both of those things are kind of covered already by PC. Games on your tv? My tv already has VGA- and HDMI- inputs, so i can already plug most PCs, or macs for that matter, and even my netbook, into it.
