Obscure Asian RPGs on PC

Post by ZeroAX »

This topic was started by me so I could find an obscure Korean RPG I played as a kid, and since the search for that specific game turned into a thread full of interesting games most of us never heard before, I decided to keep the topic and chance the title so we can discuss obscure Asian RPGs on PC here, and you guys can also check out all the games we talked about till we found the game I was looking for ;).

EDIT From here on original post:

This will probably be a pretty hard (or should I say impossible) game to track down, but here goes anyway. Back in 1999 I got a magazine CD with upcoming game demos (if it helps pinpointing the exact era, it had a demo of C&C Tiberium Sun on the disk too), and I remember installing a demo of an (most likely asian) RPG. It was top down with 2D anime graphics. I remember the sprites being pretty big and there being anime designs of the characters on the text box when they spoke.

I'm not sure if the game was even Japanese. I think at the time the name sounded weird to me and that it most likely was not Japanese, maybe Korean or Taiwanese?

And also I am not 100% sure, but it MIGHT have been the 3rd in the series. Or I might just remember it wrong and the game did not have a number in the name, I honestly don't know.

This is probably the most obscure request for help I have seen written on these boards, but if I have a chance of finding anyone with a lot of knowledge of asian PC games, I'm sure this is the best place (that I know of) to ask.

So
Platform: PC (no idea if it had ports, but it controlled with the mouse too I think so it might not have had console ports)
Year: 1998-2000 (just to be safe)
May or Maynot have been the 3rd game in a series.
Asian but most likely not Japanese, though we can't rule it out 100%

As always any help is greatly appreciated :)

A Greek one. And an unpopular one too, otherwise I could have asked for help from the Greek retro community. .....maybe I should now that I think about it (not really a member in any forums though, but whatever)

I want to find out the answer now too!

It wasn't Ys I or II was it? Those were released on the PC in the early 2000s.

Legend of Heroes IV and V also had a PC release in the late-90s/early-2000s.

There were also several Farland Saga games on the PC during that same era.

Do you think the game was ever localized? Or did it likely stay in Japan/Asia?

If it was a Korean or Chinese game we're gonna have a tough time figuring this out.

Was it Castle Fantasia or Castle Fantasia 2: Seima Taisen?

Perhaps Vantage Master or The War of Genesis Side Story I: Rhapsody of Zephyr?

Maybe a Farland game?

Legend of Heroes 3?

Check out images of those, and if not I'll see what else I can spit out.

hm if it helps the protagonist was blonde xD

I googled imaged those games, the closest was yis but the game had bigger sprites with the people having actual forms, not being deformed like that.

It was translated into English so of course it was localised (how else would I be able to play an RPG? :P).

I'm saying Korean because the name of the game and the asian characters behind it really didn't seem Japanese.

Almost  . I was very happy when I saw some screenshots, but no unfortunately not.

The protagoniust was male. Also I remember the setting being medival Europe (as seen in anime). If I remember correctly you started in some European medival village fought some monsters and went to the guild for something.....really don't remember it
