Did you try it with an AC adapter?

Was your brother's GG working before you scavenged the part off it?

I don't have an AC adaptor but no...I took it apart and the motherboard on his Game Gear was encrusted with corrosion. I found the problem however, the connector that accounts for the main power on the right side of the system's wire frayed and isn't conducting power, came lose from the contact like nothing. So I've gotta figure out a way to fix that. Everything else seems to be ok though.

Those little cables are a pain. I completely replaced them on my game gear as it had exactly the same problem as you. To do simple you can simply solder a single replacement wire. Just solder on the underside of the board where the pins of the connector are soldered.

I striped the wire bare a little and held it in place to the connector to see if that would work and it flickered on for a second, sadly the result hasn't been duplicated yet :-(. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with soldering.

Well, if you cant solder you're not going to get that thing fixed yourself mate.

If you want to learn tosolder, practice on some junk first, ask questions around and get a decent iron. ( not those Unregulated Radio shack POS)

Hey now, you can do good with with cheapies once you've had practice. You just have to do a lot of tip maintenance. :P

So after stripping the wire some, cleaning the connections and carefully applying some electrical tape it's up and running! the only really displays if you hold it at a tilt but I managed to get it going. I'm really happy as it was sitting under some rubbish for about 2-3 years.

That tape solution may not be permanent, but at least it shows a easy fix, congrats! Maybe invest in a Small Soldering Iron and ROSIN Core Solder, try practicing soldering scrap wire together.

I'm going to eventually start soldering but I didn't feel like trying it on this as it just seemed like something that didn't require it right away and I've never soldered before. Regardless after going to a local game shop last night and getting a game for the system they gave me the AV adapter for free! So the battery connection isn't a heavy concern. Still thanks for all the help from everyone!

Electrical tape? Well glad you got it running. :P

The weird display view angle is typically caused by aged electrolytic capacitors. They will eventually need replacement.
