Is it possible to replace the contacts on a game gear?

Today while my sister was cleaning up our old house she found my sega game gear. It looks to be in good shape aside from a scratched up screen which isn't that much of an issue and one of the battery contacts being completely rusted. I took it apart and it looks fine on the inside, it's just one of the bottom contacts that's rusted out. Is there a way to replace this? I looked around and didn't see a guide to the practice anywhere so I'm not sure. Thanks in advance for any help given on this subject!

You can try cleaning both side of the contact ( the PCB side and the black part on the underside of the rubber dome ) with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol, This usually helps alot.

I did clean it, but unfortunately it's rusted and the small spring has fallen off.

Try opening up the case and seeing if they're easily removable and to get a good look at them. I know I took out the contacts of a Game Boy while painting it. I bet there's a good chance replacements are available as a type of generic thing rather than something specifically designed for the Game Gear.

So far it doesn't look that way, there are wires connecting the contacts to the main case, I'm going to see if I can push them out with a screwdriver but it's the oddest set up I've ever seen.

Ah sorry, I misread "Bottom contact" by "Button contact"

You could replace it but you'd need to have the exact same original part on hand. Otherwise you will have to improvise.

If you still have clean metal where the spring used to to be, you could possibly try soldering a new spring there.

Try a small file on that rusted metal battery holder tab. As long as there is some metal left, it should be able to be shined up enough for an electrical contact. You can get a replacement spring cut from a ball point pen or look for a small spring kit at the hardware store.

I managed to get apart my brother's game gear and replace the contact using the ones there. It's still not powering on however so I'm guessing there's a lot more wrong with it. The board it's self looks fine just not sure what's wrong.

Well they were the only ones not completely corroded on his game gear, he doesn't care for old video game stuff anyways.

I'll post pictures of the game gear soon to see if that offers any help.
