1. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS)
2. Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land (GB)
3. Ecco the Dolphin (GBA port)
4. Wario Land 3 (GBC)
5. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GC)
6. Nectaris: Military Madness (PS1)
7. Return Fire (PS1 port)
8. Guardian Heroes (SS)
9. Galactic Attack (SS)
10. Decathlete (SS)
Four down, six to go!
I recently played through both Wario Land II and Wario Land 3, and I am glad to have Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land - and all but one of the original Wario Land games - under my belt. (Virtual Boy Wario Land continues to elude me, but I dream of a 3DS port...)
I enjoyed this game...but not nearly as much as I enjoyed Wario Land II or Wario Land 3. First, it is very different from Wario Land II and Wario Land 3 in that it is a very traditional platforming game. (I suspect that it was built off of Super Mario Land 2's code; the games felt very similar to me.) Second, it is much shorter and less challenging than either Wario Land II or Wario Land 3. Finally, the game is a bit uneven. All of the secrets are concentrated at the beginning of the game, and some of the first levels are much more challenging than those at the end of the game. That said, it is still a solid platformer that can be completed in a few hours. It is also much better than most games for the original Gameboy, and it is a "must have" for any one who collects for the system.
.....
I am not sure what I will take on next...my wife and children are heading out of town next week; so true to my nerdy nature, I will spend the hours I am not at work playing video games. I hope to tackle a few of these while they are gone, but I probably will not start another game for a few days. In the meantime, please let me know what you think I should go for next.

Picked up Oracle of Ages again last night for a bit and finished off dungeon 4, which I assume puts me at the half way point. I've gotten into a place where I have too many games going at once, but I think playing Oracle of Ages between sections of SMTIV (since they are on the same device) will make it more likely for me to see it though to the end.

Finished stage 9 (The Cistern) in Tomb Raider today, which leaves 6 more to go. I'm going on holiday thursday morning though, so I don't foresee a whole lot more progress before then.
At this point, I don't foresee me beating all 11 games on my list before the end of August. So my current plan is to try and finish Tomb Raider in early August, follow it up with the 2 SNES games, and beat Metal Gear Solid to finish. I'll try and start FFVII before the end of the month too, but there's no way I'll beat it by then.
Poor old Blaster Master has little hope of making it though.

I finished the first part (1 of 4) in act 3. So there are only four more stages until I beat Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

Beat Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls this week (just beat the former now). I'll give my opinions on those games along with Sonic Pocket Adventure sometime this week.
Snatcher and Contra are pretty sure things on my list. Thinking of adding an n64/Saturn/PSX to my list (Banjo Kazooie being the front runner). Thinking of Hybrid Heaven, though that's not really a "classic" by most circles. Nights Into Dreams could be fun to check out.

Together RPG takes precedence over Summer Challenge for me, so there's no way I'll finish the vast majority of my games. I am committed to at least finishing the two platformers though. The RPGs can wait until next year or whenever.

Man, I'm loving Pokemon Pinball. First pinball video game I tried, it's a blast learning the mechanics.
Not sure if it counts as a "classic" though, and it's broad in terms of how you beat it (I'm not finishing the Pokedex that's for sure, I think you need to trade to do it). I did beat the CPU's best score though.

No trading required at all.Violent By Design wrote:Man, I'm loving Pokemon Pinball. First pinball video game I tried, it's a blast learning the mechanics.

You DO need to learn the mechanics of moving regions though, as some pokemon only appear in regions that only appear after you move a certain number of times.
A few pokemon and areas only appear on one of the two tables too.
Mewtwo and Mew are also a pain in the ass to catch.

I'm using a guide heavily on Oracle of Ages now (down to last 1/3 or so to go). Lots and lots of fetch quests across time and required minigames between dungeons=ugh.
I still like it better than 3D Zeldas, but it's worn out its welcome.

Is it better/worse than Link's Awakening?
