And we also need a HD rerelease of Montezuma's Revenge and ET.

Comparing this to movies and music is likes apples to oranges for me. You'll never see the ridiculous amount of double dipping with games that you do in the movie industry, unless we're talking about companies like Capcom or Koie, but we expect that from those greedy a holes. They're the exception not the rule.
Double dips with movies are fine by me if they're doing stuff like a new transfer, especially if the previous transfer had problems that needed to be addressed. Otherwise, it's annoying I guess, but I'm not particularly bothered by attempts to keep up the availability of catalogue titles. Nobody's forcing me to rebuy anything, so I decide what's worth it on a case by case basis.

Capcom re-releasing everything all the time isn't something I'm bothered by either. It keeps the titles widely available and inexpensive, at least in those re-released forms.
That's pretty much how I look at it.

I like the collections for one very important reason... it frees up valuable shelf space. :)

Another post repeating what everyone's said:

Don't worry too much about the HD Collections. When you're ready to purchase a game, do some Googling to see if there's an HD version coming out soon. If there is, just think about if you're willing to wait for it to come out. Also, if an HD version comes out say a year later, just decide if you're willing to double dip or if the additions make it worth it for you. Just because an HD version is out doesn't mean that the original is invalid.

I love it, I didn't get to experience Ico and Shadow of the Colossus until the HD remake came out because they were somewhat expensive (atleast Ico was at the time) and Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of my favorite games of all time so getting the HD remake was a no brainer. I have sort of a tradition of playing through Metal Gear Solid 3 around Christmas.
