I completely understand, but the same goes for 3d games in most aspects. I mean OOT on the N64 may be jaggy, but that is the version we all played (alot). So while the 3ds version is gorgeous, the N64 one still has an odd luster in its angular jagginess.AppleQueso wrote:We're not talking full on remakes so much as those HD "remasterings" of games.fastbilly1 wrote:I really do not care. And while they may be the exact same game just prettier, well sometimes you just want those old pixels.
Something like Metal Gear Solid 2 really doesn't look too much different in HD. It's nicer looking and has widescreen, but it's very clearly the same game as it was on the Ps2.

No no no, that's not what I mean. the HD "remakes" don't update the geometry or anything, it's, for the most part, the exact same assets as the original simply rendered in a higher resolution. Sometimes textures and UI are redone and cleaned up a bit, but that's about it.fastbilly1 wrote:I completely understand, but the same goes for 3d games in most aspects. Gotcha, sorry. Yeah it`s more like AppleQueso says.
My biggest problem with the so called HD Collection is the adding of new stuff.
If the game goes only into HD with no new content attached, thats fine by me. But when they go and add new stuff, more playtime, etc. well it really sucks.
Especially because some retro games are so expensive and then they get released in HD format.
But i`ll do as you say, just trying to be informed, and dont thing much about it.

I really don't care. For a collector, nothing replaces owning a classic original. If I love a game, I'll happily own the original AND the HD version.
Comparing this to movies and music is likes apples to oranges for me. You'll never see the ridiculous amount of double dipping with games that you do in the movie industry, unless we're talking about companies like Capcom or Koie, but we expect that from those greedy a holes. They're the exception not the rule.

Double dips with movies are fine by me if they're doing stuff like a new transfer, especially if the previous transfer had problems that needed to be addressed. Otherwise, it's annoying I guess, but I'm not particularly bothered by attempts to keep up the availability of catalogue titles. Nobody's forcing me to rebuy anything, so I decide what's worth it on a case by case basis.Gamerforlife wrote:I really don't care. For a collector, nothing replaces owning a classic original. Capcom re-releasing everything all the time isn't something I'm bothered by either. It keeps the titles widely available and inexpensive, at least in those re-released forms.

Yeah, I guess, but we know Capcom just does it to make as much money as possible so it kind of sickens me. I don't know any company that re-releases or rehashes stuff as much as they've done over the years, or Koei with their fifty thousand different versions of Dynasty Warriors.AppleQueso wrote:Double dips with movies are fine by me if they're doing stuff like a new transfer, especially if the previous transfer had problems that needed to be addressed. I got tired of trying to keep up with the constant double dips in the movie industry and trying to figure out what's different in every release. It's one of the reasons I don't collect movies anymore. I also got tired of how foreign releases got treated, with lots of stuff getting censored or edited when brought overseas or things being released dub only
To bring things more into a positive light, I think the game industry is MUCH better about this stuff. Games don't typically get re-released without a good reason with the exception of certain money grubbing companies. That's one of the perks of being a video game collector I think. There's far fewer releases to keep track of, unless you count ports of third party games, but they're generally all the same with very minor differences other than what system you play on. The exception being when a port comes out months later and needs new content to justify its existence. Double dipping just isn't as big an issue in the game industry, even with these new HD collections, and I like it that way.

It capcom's defense as of late with their street fighter updates they are not doing that to make a quick buck. They have the biggest fighting game community playing their game nonstop since 2009 and they do huge updates with new characters and re balanced characters based on fan feedback and they only charge 15 bucks. The physical release is just icing on the cake.

Re: The fear of HD Collection
haha really. Everyone loves SF4, so Capcom gives us SF4 and they're the devil. Gamers really have this weird thing about "if it gets released I have to buy it and be mad that I had to buy it." It's weird.loganm187 wrote:It capcom's defense as of late with their street fighter updates they are not doing that to make a quick buck. I think we need a HD version of Final Fantasy IV and Ys Book I & II.
