I had that attitude once, but I read the first two books while I was stranded in a hotel. After that, I basically said to myself, "F*ck it. These are great!" and plowed through the rest of the series. I even ended up reading some of the later books in a single sitting.

(My point is that, if you have the slightest interest in them, I would recommend reading the books.)
I do not like the writing style, and deplore the author - Id rather not get into that discussion in public. My predispositions are too well ingrained to be bypassed. I also had several experiences where people told me I was a fool for not have read them before the movies came out, which I turned around on them when they were watching Game of Thrones a few weeks ago.

Instead, it is better to compare it to the likes of Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel, Flix, Starz, Encore, MoviePlex, Epix, Playboy TV, Hustler TV, Penthouse TV, Baby First TV, Fox Soccer Plus, NFL RedZone, here!, and so forth.
Yeah but the guidelines on NFL Redzone and Fox Soccer Plus are insane.

You should totally do it. Make it a family discussion.

No worries...Unlike some of our other members, I don't think there is much point in arguing taste.

I never said this. I explained that they felt convoluted because plot points seemed artificially shoehorned in to extend the length of the series. I granted that maybe this was the fault of the films, and not the books.

I certainly could follow the Potter films fine and understood it. I just understood it to be convoluted and - perhaps a better word - overly-contrived.

Well, it was a book (series). A planned series, so I guess you could say it was contrived. She sort of had to plan what she was going to do, otherwise it would have ended up like my attempt at book. I.E. never finished, and pretty shitty.

I dont see what was shoehorned though.

Harry's 11. Finds out hes a wizard.
Goes to school for the first year, almost killed by Voldemort.
Goes to school a 2nd time, finds out he can speak to snakes like Voldy. Almost gets murdered by Voldy's memory.
Goes to school a 3rd time, thinks hes gonna be murdered by a guy who supposedly followed Voldy, turns out the guy is his godfather and was framed.
Goes to school the 4th year, and is set up to win a rigged set of contests so Voldy can get him alone and use his blood to be revived and kill him too, but fails killing him.
Year 5, Voldy orchestrates a smear campain against Harry so he can secrety overtake the Magical Government from the inside.
Year 6: Voldy succeeds in taking over from the inside, and uses his inside man to try and kill harry, but also Dumbledore, and succeeds in killing Dumbledore - while this is happening, an explanation for the memory in Movie/book/Year 2 is presented which:
Year 7 - explains why Voldemort wasn't killed, and still around in some form until book 4. The final battle happens, the hero triumphs and everyone is happy.

I dont see how that's convoluted. Planned, sure. Overly planned, sure. Maybe she wanted to be really detailed and create a living breathing universe, which she succeeds at. The argument could be made that shes not a great writer, but neithe was Tolkien (gasp). But he created a great universe that influenced fantasy forever.

Now, was this video made before Jackson grew tired of the series he was watching right at the end, or after?

Instead of Hustler, you could suggest "Play boy!? Play boy!?". Bet he'd come around to your side then...

I like how peter jackson had to cut all that content to get the lord of the rings books to fit into three movies, but now he's turning a 32 page hobbit book into three oversized movies.
