Windwaker for Gamecube looks so pretty still, I doubt it would make much of a difference if you played the new version. I don't care for Zelda personally, so I can't vouch if another person who isn't a fan of 3D Zelda would like it.
The thing about it tho, it's not just the same game only with HD graphics. If the only difference was the bump from 480 to 1080, I wouldn't really care. I have no problem with the way my Wii looks (GCN or Wii games) via component cables on my HDTV. Of course, full HD would be better, but I can still enjoy 480i/p (although I would pay good money for an HD version of Xenoblade Chronicles - that idea might even deserve its own thread).

Anyway, it looks like the Wii U HD remake will be the definitive version of Wind Waker. It wont just be a cut n paste. It'll make use of the new U controller. You can mess with inventory and view maps on the controller screen. I got into the 3DS and enjoy having that second screen. HUD that would typically take up screen space can be on the second screen and/or things that you would have to press pause to view. Another thing, I've heard that a major complaint with the game was the sailing. You can sail 50% faster in the remake. There's also some kind of Miiverse integration which I don't really care about.

But yeah, point is, it's not simply an HD version of the same game. This might be just what I need. I was never able to get into Wind Waker for some reason (not that I'm a big fan of the 3D Zeldas) and I've made several attempts. Although it's not toward the top of my list, I'm kinda pumped for it.

"You can sail 50% faster in the remake."

I want it for this reason alone. Plus, they haven't specified, but they hinted at some surprise towards the end and changes in regards to the much criticised 'Triforce quest' at the end. I'm intrigued by this...

Yeah, not to sound like a broken record, but I'm kinda looking forward to this release. I haven't ever been able to get into Wind Waker. But I'm a little older now, and the changes in the U version sound great. I'll pick this game up like I never heard of it before.

I've never played WW before so I'm really excited for the remake.

A few have mentioned it, but I'd like to reiterate how great Pikmin 2 is. It's available on the Wii now, which has knocked the Gamecube price down a little, but it is one of those games that you can play comfortably, sort of like how Pilotwings or Silicon Valley were strangely relaxing games, perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon. It doesn't have the challenging time limit of Pikmin 1, so you can think through the tasks more. I suppose this may remove some of the urgency and feeling of relief when you beat a boss, but there are plenty of those kind of games.

Also, Billy Hatcher was a cracking game, 3D platformer with the emphasis on an egg as a weapon, or for puzzles. It's a bit like Glover, but easier. Certainly has the Sega sheen and tight controls.

One game you NEED in your GC collection, despite being ported to PS2 is Viewtiful Joe. It still feels like a Gamecube game to me. I can't vouch for the sequel as I've not played it but the first was a stand out title for me when it came out in 2003.

They have, however, confirmed that there will be very little new content for the game. No new dungeons, enemies, side-quests, or much of anything outside of gameplay tweaks. This is really disappointing, personally, as I wanted tNintendo to lavish the same care on Wind Waker as they did with Ocarina 3D. As of now, it's pretty obvious that Nintendo is just releasing something 1st-party ASAP to pad the WiiU's lineup. There's nothing wrong with that, but I just with they would have done more with the WW remake.

I found Cubivore to be mediocre at best. The premise is slightly odd and the overall feel amounts to a 3D pseudo E.V.O. in my mind. The main focus of a game like that should be combat and leveling/evolving and it just didn't grab me and sit me in front of the 'cube until I had to call in sick to work.

The same thing goes for the rest of the "quirky" Japanese GC games. Gotcha Force looked like the leftovers from a threesome between Virtual-On, Toy Story, and a Pokemon anime and it played exactly like you'd imagine it would. Chibi-Robo had potential, but the battery power mechanic could've been loosened up a bit to broaden the scope of it. Ribbit King is the most affordable (probably because it's a PS2 port, thus not being very applicable to this thread) and while I haven't played it yet, it didn't look like I was missing out much on the Japanese rendition of frog golf.

They're not horrible, but the prices they fetch today could be better spent on other quality titles for the Gamecube collection on a budget. (And yes, I own them all because I'm a filthy little Nintendo lover.)

Agreed. My least favorite 3D Zelda by a long shot for sure, but yeah I'm pretty pumped for this version.
