I am pretty sure XSeed used 90% of the WD translation for the PSP version.

It's such a long game! Don't waste your time playing both.

Didn't read past the first page, but why not play the Sega CD versions first, then play the PS1 versions and finally play the PSP version of the first game? Don't bother with the PSP version of Lunar 2, since it doesn't exist.
Re: Lunar on sega cd, saturn,ps1, or gba?!?
I thought I should throw my opinions out here again.
I've played Lunar on Sega CD, PS1, and GBA.
The Sega CD port is a whole different game to me. IMHO, it's worth playing in its own right. Again, any RPG loving Sega CD owner should have it.
For the PS1 or PSP, I think you really just have to decide how you want to play them (on the go, with widescreen support, or just original format). I'm a definite fan of the series, but never felt the need to justify having it on PSP too (yet anyways).
For me, Lunar on GBA was largely not worth it. They made too many changes to the battle system that turned it into a slightly more bland/mundane RPG experience. It was decent fun, if taken on its own, but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as the other 2.
