Lunar on sega cd, saturn,ps1, or gba?!?

Post by Kahokian »

I recently got a steal a couple months back on SEGA CD. The only game I got with it I actually enjoy is Dark Wizard~! Pretty neat game.

But I have been wanting to play the Lunar series (shame on me for being a rpg lover and not indulging in this series ik ik) but I just don't know what system to purchase Lunar: The Silver Star for. I have been leaning towards the SEGA CD just because I really want to own the original game plus I feel I would be getting the "original" 1993 experience. Yes I am sure the newer versions for the other consoles are updated, better graphics, different cut scenes, etc etc etc. I just feel I need to put my SEGA CD to use, the only drawback is the fact it is pricey and of course I have to buy it CIB!!!!

HELP A GAMER OUT!!

I prefer the PS1 versions, but you are getting a great game either way. I didn't even know there was a GBA version, but I know there is a PSP version.

I feel like I've answered this one a lot, lol. Even though I don't have hands on experience... I heard the exact same thing from two good friends:

- Lunar 1, go with the PSX version.
- Lunar 2, go with the Sega CD version. Apparently has a better magic distributing mechanic or something.

Either way, I've emulated a bit of the first game via Sega CD and it still seems awesome. The facelift with the PSX versions is pretty huge, so perhaps it's best to just check all the versions out eventually.

Lunar on Sega CD is totally worth it. I really enjoyed playing through it...twice so far.
I can't express quite how I felt when I first got the game and really got into it.

I also like the PS1 version, but kind of consider it a different game. There's a lot of changes in the story and the "feel" and atmosphere are significantly altered (among some other things.
Still good, but different.

I'm another Joe that would say to get both.
But really, if you have a Sega CD and like RPG's, it's a no-brainer.

BTW, the 1st print run of the game should be a bit cheaper and easier to find. There's less art on the disc and the manual doesn't have that shiny "SEGA CD" on the side. But it may be a deciding factor on what you are looking for, either way.

In fact, check here and see what disc art you want:

I have #1 and #5 (counting from left to right)...
Although, the collector in me wants them all.

THATS A LOT OF RPGS! (from that link above)

If you get the PS1 versions, here's a link to the variants... http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstatio ... /index.htm You have to scroll down some to see them.

I have the PS1 Lunars but sadly no boxes for them. Paid $18 for them and some other games. I have the lunar "fan edition" and the lunar 2 main cast edition from what the guy in game-rave posted.

the procrastinator in me has yet to play them!

hopefully I will soon.

You sound like me, I have that same condition.
I still need to play the PS1 version of Lunar 2.

I have all 4 of the main PS1 disc arts, 2 of them are complete. The other 2 have the case at least.
Never could get a hold of the Fan-art edition, but it matters less to me anyways.
And I have both Lunar 2 PS1 variations.

Don't think I'm too crazy though, I got a couple of them from a friend who gave up most of his collection.

I think you should either play the Sega CD or the PS1 version. If you only play 1, probably the PS1 version is the one to go for as it does not suffers from "random encounters" (a really big deal as far as I'm concerned). That said, I think the original Sega CD story was better thought out (don't know why they made those changes, oh well) and indeed has a different feel etc.

Do not play the GBA version - it is not a bad RPG in itself, but it just isn't the same Lunar experience.

We had this discussion before when it was the game for Together Retro, you may want to check out other's opinions there.

Ivo.

Either Sega CD or PS1, no contest there. Saturn version is worthless unless you know Japanese.

Definitely the PS1 versions. I have played Lunar 2 for Sega CD, but I didn't quite like how you had to save up MP to save your game, or spending MP to upgrade abilities.
