You got it bud. I picked a few gems here as far as difficulty goes - Dark Souls had me ripping my hair out for about a week (almost done though) and now MMX2 is doing the same! If memory serves, Monster Rancher 2 isn't particularly kind either...Violent By Design wrote:Do it for me.Retrogamer0001 wrote:1. Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Playing Mega Man X2 tonight and ugh, having a tough go of it. I've beaten all the Mavericks and am now in the final area, but I'm not sure I'll get much farther. These games always were a real bitch to beat...

Well, I beat Mega Man X2 this afternoon, but ashamedly, I had to use YouTube for help. As a purist, this is a tough blow for me, and I don't really feel all that satisfied with having beaten it. It's a very tough game, and although I was the one who actually beat all the bosses and put ten hours into it, it still sucks. Anyway, moving on!

I started Sonic CD today. I am enjoying it so far but I don't really consider it better than any of the games that came after it. But still a very good game

I was really disappointed by Sonic CD. I felt like none of the levels were memorable, and the colors are just weird. Can't say I like the time warp mechanic, I mean it's really inconvenient having to run full speed in order to do it. In general, the time travel was handled very poorly I thought.ZeroAX wrote:I started Sonic CD today. I only played the first zone, so I didn't mind it cause I noticed the level was designed around it being possible, but taking effort to activate the mechanic. If this was modern Sonic team, it would be impossible and frustrating to do it.Violent By Design wrote:I was really disappointed by Sonic CD. A quick note on Sonic CD, as you get better at the game you'll likely find it harder to avoid time traveling when you don't want to. The game gives you tons of space to build up speed for this, and I frequently do it by accident without trying.
Anyway, I've beaten Demon's Crest!
1. Demon's Crest - SNES - Complete
2. Sonic Pocket Adventure - NGPC- Complete
3. Harvest Moon GBC - GBC
4. Panzer Dragoon - Saturn
5. Shadowrun - Genesis
6. Chrono Cross - PS1
6.5 Radical Dreamers - SNES - Complete
7. Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys - Genesis - Complete
8. Deus Ex - PC
9. Metal Slug 2 - PSN
10.Golden Axe 3 - Genesis - Complete
First thing, the game was not nearly as long or difficult as I remembered it being in my childhood. On the flip side, it is every bit as awesome as I remember, so it wasn't nostalgia talking.
I finished the game with the better ending in one sitting last night without much difficulty, with the exception of the optional boss, the Dark Demon.
He was a bastard, to put it mildly, and I wasn't able to beat him last night. Aside from the fact that he's almost disproportionately difficult compared to the rest of the game, I was also quite tired and making stupid mistakes.
Even coming at it fresh today, it took another two attempts before I finally beat him, but beat him I did. Feels good.
You have to collect every item in the game and beat the regular final boss to get a special password, which gives you a new gargoyle form and access to the Dark Demon fight. Winning gives you another ending, where Firebrand throws away the crests he collected because he realizes he's plenty bad ass without them.
It also gives you a cool new ending screen. Sorry for the quality, its a cell phone pic.

In other news, I'm making good progress in Harvest Moon GBC. I'm almost into the first year Fall, have a full barn and coop (4 cows, 4 chickens) all of the tools that can be purchased at this point, 2 of the 4 golden tools, the first house upgrade, and 5 out of 10 power berries (the other five can't be collected until the second year). The game's goals are easily met, it just requires a lot of time.
I also still can't beat Metal Slug 2, as the first section of the final mission just chews me up (damn it all), and I've just started Chrono Cross.

Left chaos tower, bought new spells n potions, heading back to chaos tower, hate myself.
EDIT: beat it. Wish I knew about that spell that revived AND gave full HP sooner.

Sonic CD is often called the best sonic game, or holds a place higher than Sonic 3 and Knuckles on people's Top 10 lists. I think it's a great game, and I actually enjoy the strange color palette and the idea behind the game. However, I don't think it's the best sonic game by a long shot. The mechanics can be frustrating at times, and in some instances it's hard to figure out where you're even going on a level. However, I really enjoyed the game once I got through it and the music is fantastic (Both US and JP versions). Great Sonic game? Yes. Best Sonic game? No.Violent By Design wrote:I was really disappointed by Sonic CD. I felt like none of the levels were memorable, and the colors are just weird. So what now? You planning to start up Chrono Trigger? Or would you rather play something else since you've already got an RPG on your plate? Silent Hill 2 would be a great, eery companion to Dark Souls!Retrogamer0001 wrote:1. Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Great call on that one - I actually started it last night about an hour after finishing MMX2! I've always been a big Silent Hill fan, right down to the grainy graphics and hilarious voice-acting, so going through this one should be pretty fun. I'll be starting one of the heavy RPGs after beating both this and Dark Souls, likely CT or FF3.Ack wrote:So what now? You planning to start up Chrono Trigger?
