Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!

Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
1. Shining Force II (Genesis) *started playing*
2. Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP)
3. MediEvil (PS1) *stopped playing*
4. Turrican (Genesis)
5. Duck Tales (NES)
6. Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons (PC) *started playing*
7. Eye of the Beholder (SCD)
8. The Last Blade (Arcade)
9. Alex Kidd in Miracle World (SMS)
10. Zork (PC)
I'm gonna count this one as "done" but not beaten. I have learned I don't care for the game, despite liking some of the aesthetic style. I think I gave it a fair shot (2-3 hours), but it just felt unfun in too many places.

1. Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)
2. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
3. The Legend of Zelda (NES)
4. Sonic the Hedgehog (Gen)
5. Super Mario Kart (SNES)
6. Double Dragon (NES)
7. Metroid Prime (GC)
8. Duck Tales (NES)
9. F-Zero (SNES)
10. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2)
Okay, I decided to replace Tetris Attack with F-Zero for the SNES. I think I'd like to beat those games chronologically. I might be convinced to swap Double Dragon out for something else. Feel free to let me know if you've got any suggestions.
I beat Super Mario Bros. 2 last night. Now I've just got to play through New Super Mario Bros. 2 (which I don't own) and I'll have beaten every Mario platformer (both 2d and 3d) released in North America. I have to say that Super Mario Bros. 2 on the NES is definitely my least favorite out of the series. The level design is so bizarre that it's obvious it isn't really a Mario game, even disregarding the enemies. It's definitely not a bad game, but if feels like it has way less finesse and subtlety than other Mario games have. Just a bit more straight forward I guess. I did have fun though, I'm glad to have played it. I do like some of the misdirection and secret-ish progression. Having to ride enemies off screen to get to your destination is pretty cool. It's funny actually trying to beat some of these games after all these years. Both Mario 3 and Mario 2 took only a couple hours on first attempts. I wish I had a longer attention span and desire to win when I was a kid. One last note, when the hawk door came to life as a mini-boss towards the end I laughed out loud. It was totally unexpected and a really fun idea in the game.

A-B-P. A-always, B-be, P-platforming. Always be platforming! Always be platforming!!

Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
So after a lengthy slog, I cleared Bubble Bobble from stage 65 through to stage 100, took down the boss and sat awaiting my ending.
Which never came. Instead, I got to enjoy this cutscene:
Apparently I'd managed to stumble across three hidden rooms as I played containing a magic gem or orb or something in each, which unlocks a further 100 levels to enjoy in the Master System version. So I guess I'm only just past the half way point now
I certainly don't think this game is a good as everyone says, I'm really not sure I want to play through another 100 (or 87 actually, I played to 113 before I game overed) stages to call it beat. But I guess I'll do so, because I'm a glutton for punishment. I'm just not sure I can bear to hear that same 25 second loop of music for another 4 hours
It seems like stages 101-200 are the same as stages 1-100 so far, albeit with tougher enemies in them. It seems to get the best ending I need to find some more hidden objects, but one of them requires I have 1,000,000 points by level 195, which I can;t imagine happening, so I'll just make beating the boss of stage 200 my goal.

I will be playing next Friday. The students are gone and we are to clean our rooms and such. I always have mine done early and am bored, so I will begin then. I will keep your offer in mind.fastbilly1 wrote:Booger, if you have any issues with Fate of Atlantis I can talk you through it. I know that game exceptionally well - I play it every other year if not every year and have for twenty years.

Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
so I though I'd play some RE4 tonight. I've played a few hours in the past and really enjoyed it (I've talked quite a bit about how it reminded me of the movie Dagon actually). But dudes, I forgot something. This game really startles me. I know, I know. It sounds so wuss. But seriously, the majority of what I watch is horror movies, and yet games like this really make me jump.
Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
That's because with movies there's more of a disconnect. With movies you're watching someone else walk into the creepy house. Sure, you can sit there and say, "Don't go in there, fool", but you have no control over what they do. With RE4 you might not BE Leon, but you are controlling his actions. You have to make him go into the creepy house because, damn it, that's where the ammunition's going to be and you need it to shoot the creeps that are chasing you.noiseredux wrote:so I though I'd play some RE4 tonight. Full disclosure: I've never beaten an RE game myself. I've started them but never finished because like noise they...they scare me too
