model 1 uses the same region. a bios mod should enable card slot japanese and sg-1000 games. but not carts yet.
Main upgrade of master system 1 is video quality. not just composite.
there's built in RGB output for when you're ready to invest in converters.
Mas, if you have the inclination, you could try replacing the caps on that game gear.
If not, I'd say look for a game gear being advertised as have been re-capped. It will probably cost a premium, but you'll know it'll work right out of the box.
