Her reaction should make her feel like a terrible mother. Not you being an athiest.
I was actually going to tell her that when she said it. I didn't want to make a bad situation worse though, I wasn't sure how my dad was going to handle this.
Well, hopefully they'll come to their senses and value that you're a grown/growing human being with the ability to form your own opinions and ideas, regardless if they align with theirs or not.

My mom is the same way. I was always made to go to church. I can't just enjoy spending time with her now that we are alot older without a conversation of me going to hell. This easter i told her happy zombie jesus day.

My dad thinks it's just a "phase." And it is not. For sure.

Now are you really atheist or agnostic? Atheism is basically a religion all unto itself.

Am I? I am just not a religious/spiritual person, it was my understanding that atheism was basically its own form of religion.

Athiesm is a lack of religion and belief in a higher being. It's not at all like a religion. There are no followers. It's just a lack of the belief in god/ a higher being/etc.

Not necessarily. What you are describing is someone who is irreligious. While some atheists are irreligious, there are some whose denial of certain or all deities closely represents religion. An example is humanist atheists who believe people to be the higher power etc...
