Yeah, the little bit I did play seemed pretty Punch-Out-esqe. It grabbed my attention immediately, though.mjmjr25 wrote:This game takes a TON of pattern memorization - and a ton of patience.foxhound1022 wrote: Crossed Swords (MVS)

Here's my (probably last) list of things that people have decided they want to play for this challenge which shouldn't count as classics. If you aren't playing one of these games now, let me know and I'll remove it from the list of shame.
-Psychic World
-Onimusha 2
-Terranigma (one of those also-ran middling 16 bit RPGs, in my mind)
-Mischief Makers ("cult" classic ≠ classic)
-Witcher 2 (a lost "classic" of 2012!)
-Siren (see "Mischief Makers" above)
-Dynamite Deca (more cult classic than classic)
-Silent Hill Shattered Memories (no Silent Hill games after 2 should count, even a "reimagining")
-Ys Origins - it is hard to think of this as a classic just yet as it is fairly new.
-Gemini Rue - no, too new and too niche
-Tales of Eternia - a He-Man game! oh, no...a "Tales" game. Are any of these considered classics? this one had pretty mediocre reviews...
-Sonic Pocket Adventure - not a "classic" Sonic game by any stretch. NGPC is shit.
-Skyward Sword (too new, mixed reception - wait for the inevitable Wii U version)
-Golden Sun Dark Dawn - far too new, mixed reviews
-RE Revelations (overpraised, too new, not a classic or likely to be one)
-Black (a decent shooter, sure - not really a "classic" by any stretch)
-Area 51 (my god no)
-Dark Souls (waaaay to new)
-Target Earth (not a very high regarded shmup iirc)
-Drakan: The Dragon's Gate (cult classic at best. middling reviews)
-Chili Con Carnage (wut)
-Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 (too niche, barely even a "cult classic")
-Back to the Future (too new, largely seen as shitty)
-Stacking (too new, largely seen as meh)
-----new additions-------
Last Blade (hidden gem, not a classic)
The Walking Dead (a game from last year? have you learned nothing?!)
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (too new)
Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions (again, a very new game. Maybe I should have just put The Last of Us and Metro Last Light on my list
)
Iron Brigade (too new, not even a cult classic FFS)
Myst IV Revelations (Myst can count because it was wildly and inexplicably popular. Nothing after that should be considered a classic, as most people wised up that the series sucked after one game)
Locoroco (fairly new critical darling that didn't sell very well and has exerted almost no influence)
Ganryu (this is a fairly obscure MVS title, even if it is as well regarded as claimed. Hard to consider a classic due to obscurity)
Samurai Shodown II (see "Sonic Pocket Adventure" above)
Kirby 64 (generally seen as the worst Kirby game and a good argument against, not for 3D. Not every game in a a classic franchise is necessarily a classic)
Ax Battler: A Legend of Golden Axe (same problem as listing Kirby 64 [minus the 3D element of course])
Crossed Swords (not really well regarded, fairly obscure. Neo Geo game ≠ automatic classic)
Mission Impossible (did you mean to list The Impossible Mission?)
Tenchi wo Kurau II (niche Famicom game without much of a following/impact. not a classic)
Get those lists cleaned up before Memorial Day hits!

Terranigma sold 200k and garnered 30/40, which isn't quite middling, to my mind.
Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
30/40 = 75%. That's not middling? I am sure your average students will be glad to hear thato.pwuaioc wrote:Terranigma sold 200k and garnered 30/40, which isn't quite middling, to my mind.
GameRankings says it is the 38th best rated SNES game and the 44th best game of 1996 (I realize that this site ins't the end-all be-all authority). I would think that most classics are "A" games in the upper echelon of their era. Maybe some "B" games as outliers are ok. This one is neither.
Re: Summer Game Challenge 2013 - Begin when ready!
Game scores ≠ grade scores. For me, an average game scores 50-65%, above average 66-80%, great 81-95% and top tier is 96-99, and I think only 10 games ever -if that - hit a perfect 100%.dsheinem wrote:30/40 = 75%. Some people did not finish college and became successful, thus nullifying your argument.

I'm planning to hit up GS after work to make my final decision on the 10th slot...
