Another +1 for Intellivision lives. I've seen copies for it everywhere too for around the $5 mark.

Metal Slug Anthology is rightly high on your list. Take the plunge on that one, you will not be disappointed.

Is there any reason to get this if all the 2600 carts are owned already?

I wish SNK released SNK Arcade Classics 0 on the ps2. I would've loved to have played the pre-NEO GEO games like Ikari Warriors, Psycho Soldier, Vanguard, etc. Did it ever get released in Japan?

If you have a ps3 I believe all the games were released as minis.

That's about all of them. Out of all the 6th gen consoles, the PS2 probably has the most classic compilations. I've got nearly all the collections that are available for the Gamecube.

I'll also say Intellvision Lives was very well done, with nearly every first-party game ever released on that. Plus, tons of bonus material.

I just looked through the ports of this again because I have the PC version which has the Imagic games and several homebrew titles that the PS2 version doesn't have. There really isn't a reason unless you want them all in one place and be able to get the patches and view the manuals and commercials that come in the collection.

Some of those 2600 games play well with an Arcade Stick on the PS2. Owning the original cart is best, but collections do have their intricacies.

This for example. The only decent official release of the Arcade Tac Scan is hidden as an unlock. A good point on the improved quality of the video feed over an unmodded 2600 console RF signal.

Does anybody else think this topic has the makings of a front page article? We have discussed this (or a very similar) topic several times over the last few months. There seems to be an ongoing interest in PS2 Retro Compilations.

My Personal Favorite is Fatal Fury Battle Archives: Volume 2 because it includes all the Real Bout games on one Disc. Pretty Awesome stuff, and way cheaper than buying a NEO GEO console (AES, CD, or otherwise) with all the games.
