I used to be a retail manager for an almost defunct movie rental company. Now that my wife finished college, getting a bachelor's degree in Nursing, I am now a full time student working on getting my associates in applied sciences and then getting my certification on Diagnostics in Medical Sonography taking 3D pictures of babies and stuff.

I work as a salesman in an electronics store. It's great working around products I love and talking about them all day with customers, plus the team there is great too. The only shortcoming (and the reason I'll be leaving soon) is because we recently got sold to a private equity firm whom are running our 40 year old business into the ground.

I'm actually a qualified game developer though. We all gotta have at least one useless diploma right? ;)

I'm a graduate student in psychology and have been in school for way to long.

I make my money by teaching an introductory research methods course to university students that want to get into pyschology (it's a required course to join the major). I teach in a large lecture hall with over 200 undergrads.

I also do lots of psychotherapy, but I don't get paid for that just yet. For now, it's part of my training. I specialize in treating suicide, borderline personality disorder, depression & anxiety, chronic pain, and problems in adjusting to disabilities due to a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other major trauma.

Honest question: what's the depression rate among people who specialize in treating people like that? More or less than the baseline?

Linux Administrator for a web hosting company. This is far from the "Linux Administration" I was preparing for, but it was an easy foot in the door. It's much better than working in retail, which is what I was doing for nearly 5 years before this.
We're planning on moving back to Louisiana once I have all my certifications. There, I'll either be a stay at home dad or start running my own little IT gig for small businesses.

Why LA? Just grew up and prefer it there? Family?

Job market here is much stronger for pay and career growth.

That was the reason why I moved here. This job, plus all the opportunities. It's a tough decision to make either way, and it's not really final. Stay here and advance my career, or go home and be around family. I've tried a few times to move away, but every time I end up getting extremely home sick and missing my dad. I didn't get the chance to grow up with him, so I've been wanting to make up for all the lost time.

Nothing is set in stone, and I still "stuck" at this job for quite some time. We'll see how things go.
(Plus, I really like it here in Houston. It's a lot better than what I was expecting)
