"What do you do for a living?" Thread

Post by donthatetheplayer »

Seen this around on other off-topic forums, figured its fun to chat about our careers, etc. I'll go first;

Well, technically I am currently unemployed. I say technically because I just finally closed on the sale of one of my most profitable websites. I webmaster a few other sites, but other than the one here in question, they are 99% automated at this point. So lately I've just been enjoying the simple pleasures and relaxing as much as I can. I plan on starting a part-time position with an old friend that I recently re-connected with this summer(construction), so that should keep me busy for awhile. As long as I keep my hands outta the brew cooler that is :mrgreen:
Don't hate the player, hate the (video)game.

I'm the local history librarian for a small city.

On the side, I also make a little money through a game called Unemployment Quest I made while jobless last year. And Key-Glyph and I own a business together but we haven't actually started doing much with it yet.

Breathing, processing food, sleeping.

That's about it.

I own and run my very own print shop that I built from the ground up. (i.e. not franchised/purchased from someone else).

I'm a teacher, sorta. I'm not certified so my pay is crap and I don't have a consistent position. I do long-term subbing, summer school, and lots and lots of standardized testing. I work at an elementary school (pre-K - 5) right outside of Maine's capitol.

Like I said - the pay is bad, but the job is relatively stress free and the hours are great (I'm out at 3:30 every day).

With all that said, my last day is June 11th. I'm going to be a stay-at-home dad for the foreseeable feature.

I'm also a student at the local university.

I manage a small music shop. Sales/Repairs/Ordering/Lessons. I've been working here seemingly forever. The pay isn't great (except for the lessons) but I usually get a ton of hours. It's relatively stress free, and fairly enjoyable. I also do a few other small side jobs throughout the year, but i've been cutting those out recently.

I teach computer basics to the disabled in a program that teaches them employable skills. Really basic stuff like typing, using the internet and email, making office documents in MS Word, and helping them create resumes and cover letters for job applications.

I moonlight as Mr.Popo's personal bodyguard, which means I sit around his 1990 Nintendo World Championships cartridge from 8pm-7am.

Which reminds me; PM sent popo. We need to talk about my 401k and dental insurance as apparently neither exist.

I am an instrumentation & controls engineer for an engineering & construction company. We design, upgrade, and build chemical plants, gas plants, and refineries.

The instruments are all the controlling and sensing devices on the vessels and piping. Things like pressure sensors, thermometers, flow meters, and valves. Our stuff also insures safety and that the plant doesn't blow up.
