The state of upcoming FPS

Also, EA has purchased the domain names battlefield13.com to battlefield20.com and already own battlefield4.com through battlefield9.com 10-12 are already owned, and battlefield21.com was recently purchased as a joke by Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

as someone who has played the vast majority of FPS games released since the genre was launched, I think it is fair to say that some of my favorite experiences in the genre have been this generation...

What percentage of your favorite FPS games were made post MW2? What are those games? There's Metro 2033, Arma 2, Bioshock Infinite, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat+Clear Sky and Spec Ops: The Line , but overall I think it's safe to say that 2008-2013 has been a dark time for the FPS genre despite the fact that it became more popular than ever during those years.

It's noteworthy that when you look at that list, out of the 6 games 3+2 share the same theme and are quite similiar to each other

I generally liked Halo Reach and I hear 4 is good. As a series I think it is overrated. I liked the Rainbow 6 Vegas games, and Battlefield 3 offers a great multiplayer experience.

I like the Gears series as well, but it is 3rd person, so not quite the same genre.

And then there are the RPG/FPS hybrids like Borderlands 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Dead Island. I mean, a lot of FPS have come out since the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Word, yo! Recently Fastbilly and I have been playing Killing Floor a lot on Steam with other friends. Maybe you could hop in with us sometime, like Ds did occasionally in LFD2.

To tell the truth I don't really go into any FPS games with high expectations any more.

The last one to crush my spirit was MoH Warfighter aka Door Breach Sim 2012 . Really hoping EA gets it's crap together for BF4 trailer looks awesome, but you can never tell. At least MoH Warfighter wasn't to much of a burn got beta access to BF4 and I was kind of forewarned what quality to expect when they offered it for Half price at release for BF3 owners .

Seems like many companies are getting lazy and taking to many short cuts during development recently. I have been especially disappointed with the amount of QTE and non playable boss fights.

Seriously Far Cry 3 was awesome but the cinematic boss battles, QTEs, and the major shift that happened mid game kind of killed my buzz.

Most of those are mediocre games, except L4D2, Deus Ex:HR (which isn't as good as the original) and maybe Serious Sam 3(*). Black Mesa is a graphical update of a game from 1998 and I don't really count the expansions of Painkiller (a game from 2004) as individual new releases. And tbh I got bored with L4D2 quite fast, but I don't deny the fact that the L4D-games are a breath of fresh air so I appreciate that they aren't generic shooters.
(*)I haven't played the game yet, but if it's anything like the previous games, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be good.
