Re: Together RPG - Western RPG - Vote Now
Such nostalgic memories with Fallout for me, back in the early 2000's I was in boarding school and I used to watch my roomate play this game. We spent countless hours finding every little secret.

Re: Together RPG - Western RPG - Vote Now
I did Planescape: Torment and Vampire the Masquerade, because I got about halfway through P: T and never finished it and I always wanted to play Vampire and never got around to it.

Ultima 5Retrogamer0001 wrote:Not much quality among this quanitity![]()
Planescape: Torment
Vampire: The Masqureade - Bloodlines
Fallout
Besides those you've got Ultima 4 and Wizardry (one of the most influental and important oldschool RPGs) and some solid dungeon crawlers (Grimrock and Eye of the Beholder). Can't comment on Buck Rogers and Avadon though.
...not much quality? Do you know anything about RPGs?

I've always wanted to play Wasteland, because I've played Fallout to death.

Then why is he commenting in the first place? All the games I listed excel in the writing/storyline department (not to mention the actual RPG gameplay mechanics) so I don't see how any fan of RPGs could disregard them, given that RPGs are a genre that focuses on storytelling.Opa Opa wrote:^Maybe he doesn't care for WRPG's?
It would be a good choiche but I doubt most people are willing to play through difficult oldschool RPGs with primitive graphics, which is why I wasn't sure whether to nominate Ultima 5 or not.Stark wrote:I've always wanted to play Wasteland, because I've played Fallout to death.

I went with Eye of the Beholder...at least I can play it on my SNES.
Even if you're not a big fan of WRPGs there's some pretty well regarded titles in this list. Planescape, Fallout and Vampire the Masquerade are all very well done games and have a lot of appeal to people that don't like WRPGs that much.Menegrothx wrote:Then why is he commenting in the first place? Personally I'm very much in the JRPG camp, but this list has stuff that deserves a shot if nothing else if you value the mechanics of the genre at all.

Wasteland is a level beyond PS2 in terms of obtuseness.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:We're playing Phantasy Star II, right? Give us some creditMenegrothx wrote:It would be a good choiche but I doubt most people are willing to play through difficult oldschool RPGs with primitive graphics

Re: Together RPG - Western RPG - Vote Now
A Mega Drive rpg isn't really on par with a C64 RPG when it comes to primitive graphics and difficulty level

From what I recall about Phantasy Star 2 (besides the catchy save theme), is that it was straightforward and more or less a normal 16-bit RPG (though it stood out thanks to it's theme). I really dont recall much from Wasteland, but as far as I know it's known for it's difficulty. Many of those early CRPGs have no hand holding what so ever and are generally less linear and basically expect the player the figure out what to do and where to go, so the chances are higher that some people would give up before really getting the journey started.
Though my memory might not serve me correctly, so I might be wrong.
