Early on chester has the best movement range. So it isn't always a good idea to let him get so far away from the rest of the group. You also atrract more enemies if you rush in. Sometimes it is best to go slow, take out a couple, and not advance until that group is done.Stark wrote: Started playing this morning. I'm having problems keeping Chester alive as well, poor dude.I just got to the first town and then my commute was done. Seems pretty neat so far, it was a bit to get used to at first since I'm currently playing through Fire Emblem as well and that has both people attack in a fight.

Something you'll notice as the game goes on is that different terrain types will lower the movement of your units differently, depending on what type they are. Centaurs tend to be the most effected; there are some pieces of terrain that will force your centaurs down to 2 squares a turn, while your mages only lose a single movement point.Jmustang1968 wrote:Early on chester has the best movement range. Yeah, that's mountain terrain. Murder on centaurs. I believe there are a couple units that actually gain mobility in certain terrains: Wolf-men in forests and Kiwi on mountains.

I was actually thinking about deserts, but mountains also such. I don't believe Kiwi and Gerhalt actually gain movement above their baseline, they just ignore terrain effects. Gerhalt ignores all walkable terrain, and Kiwi is actually a flying unit (which makes more sense if you enjoy your kaiju films).pierrot wrote:Yeah, that's mountain terrain. Murder on centaurs. I think I might read a manual for this kind of stuff, since there isn't a tutorial stage or anything that tells you that.MrPopo wrote:I was actually thinking about deserts, but mountains also such. Re: Together RPG - SRPG Shining Force 2
Thanks for the tips guys, I'll keep them in mind.
Fortunately, slowing down and taking battles in small chunks has made it very manageable. Though it seems in some battles that after a certain amount of time some remaining enemies will begin to chase you down.
I learned this the hard way. Blood was spilled.Jmustang1968 wrote: You also atrract more enemies if you rush in. Sometimes it is best to go slow, take out a couple, and not advance until that group is done.

Most of this was unexplained; you discovered it as you went along. But aside from Kiwi flying pretty much all of it makes sense when you think about it. And even Kiwi flying makes sense when you first see him in battle and realize he's just ripping off a kaiju.Stark wrote:I think I might read a manual for this kind of stuff, since there isn't a tutorial stage or anything that tells you that.MrPopo wrote:I was actually thinking about deserts, but mountains also such.
