What was the last movie you've seen?

That was the moment I felt that Death Proof was the weakest part of the Grindhouse set. When I think of a good car movie, I think of Vanishing Point, Duel, Smoky and the Bandit, or a variety of race movies ranging from Cannonball Run to Death Race 2000. There was just far too long a break in the action for Death Proof to be effective for me.
For me, it added to the Grindhouse feel of it all. Grindhouse movies often had long, pointless scenes that were boring between the action. Plus, in my opinion, it helped a bit in fleshing out the fact that those women were not to be fucked with. And come on, who doesn't like talking about perversions and why you need a pistol so you can do your laundry whenever the hell you damn well please?

You can put me in the Death Proof>Planet Terror camp too. But I also love me some QT dialogue, so there's that.

EXACTLY!

I've long loved Deathproof for just this reason.

It was the roundtable scene with the stunt girl retelling some boring story that did me in. Other than that it was livable. And most those old grindhouse movies were shorter than Death Proof as well.

Just got back from IRON MAN 3. I'll just repost what I said on one of my other boards:
Its not as good as Iron Man 1, but way better than Iron Man 2 (I didnt even buy that one).

Extremis: I've never read the Extremis story arc, so I went in ignorant as to what it was. I just don't see how giving yourself a 'natural healing factor' by manipulating your brain's 'hard drive' can make you MAGMA-MAN, MASTER OF MAGMA AND HOT TEMPERATURES. It made no sense. It wasn't even nanomachines, or whatever. They said it at the beginning of the movie. They were basically 'turning on' the body's healing factor. Does this make Wolverine a non-mutant? Who knows.

Tony: Tony was cool as usual. The PTSD from the Avengers was understandable, given the context in which the movie's universe exists. I'll give this one a pass. it was kinda dumb, but acceptable dumb.

Mandarin twist: Cheap. I did like Trevor too, but seriously, come on. You have Iron Man existing in a universe with alternate dimensions, Asgardian magical hammer-wielding Gods, mutants, super soldiers, and Hulk - yet you can't have the Mandarin be real?

Remote Control Armors: This was in the comic, so I'll let it slide and if they'd given the multiple armors more screen time it would have been even better. But I wish that Tony spent more time IN the armor rather than Bruce Wayne-ing it. Bruce can do that, because he's Bruce. I wish Tony had gotten into the Hulkbuster armor that they showed. WHY DIDNT HE JUST GET IN THERE AND SQUASH THE GUY. Seriously. It's designed to take out the Hulk!

(My friend Rod complained about how everyone knows who Iron Man is in real life)

Everyone knowing Tony is Iron Man: I give this a pass and I'll tell you why. At least in this movie's universe, Tony is the *exemplary model* of an eccentric billionaire playboy. The guy's got an ego the size of Galactus and wants the attention. So I get why he admits to being Iron Man in the first movie. Again, he's not Bruce. Bruce wants to hide the connection to Batman as much as possible to protect the innocent. Tony, on the other hand, believes he will protect said innocents. He thinks he can be everywhere at once, that he's literally The Invincible Iron Man, but he's not. He's flawed, his judgement is flawed, and his reasons for even being Iron Man are flawed. I'll bring up Bruce again, here. Bruce started his crusade out of partly vengeance, but grew from vengeance. He decided to continue the mantle of Batman because of justice, and protecting those who can't protect themselves. Sure, Bruce may not have as much of an 'arsenal' as Tony, but he's got his wits about him. He's kept his mission at the forefront. Tony pretty much lost it when he started getting attention. So, like I said, for this Iron Man universe (Iron Man 1, 2, 3 and Avengers) I'll give Tony the pass. He's an idiot, but I'll give him the pass.

I'd buy the Bill Nye DVDs if they were available to the public. As far as I know, you can only buy them if you're a school, and you have to pay some ungodly amount for them.
Thanks for the info. I'll look into it when I get off of work.
Hobie-wan wrote:Tokyo Fist is pretty good too. Bullet Ballet was a little slow to me though. Haven't seen A Snake in June or the one after that.
I haven't watched Tokyo Fist in a long time...

Snake in June has been downloaded and waiting for a couple of years. I had planned on watching it while in the hospital while waiting for my daughter to be born, but never got around to it. Might watch it soon though.

I've been waiting for Criterion to release a blu-ray version since I saw it last year. But alas, no sign of one yet.
